Obama Planning U.S. Trials for Guantanamo Detainees (bringing them to the US!)
Fox News via AP ^ | Monday, November 10, 2008 | AP unsigned article

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama's advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.

During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a "sad chapter in American history" and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed.

Under plans being put together in Obama's camp, some detainees would be released and many others would be prosecuted in U.S. criminal courts.

...

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard law professor and Obama legal adviser, said discussions about plans for Guantanamo had been "theoretical" before the election but would quickly become very focused because closing the prison is a top priority. Bringing the detainees to the United States will be controversial, he said, but could be accomplished.

WE didn't do it....the media and the ignorant did. WE need to survive this.

A free country cannot survive such a large portion of ignoramuses.

They are NOT Prisoners of War. They are Terrorists. President Bush should have them ALL SHOT before Obama takes over.

Just return them back to the country they were captured in and let THEM deal with it. No way do I want these scumbags let loose in the USA.

I’d consider that a standard “let’s give the guy a chance” speech. Obama did the same thing talking about working with Bush for transition. Things will change soon enough. I can’t imagine Sarah gushing over his policies a year or two from now.

we have to now do the same

say things like this isn’t the change I wanted

Buyer’s Remorse?

If I and my loved ones weren’t citizens - I’d say the Nation deserves whatever this damned fool and his America hating friends do to them.

The Nation will soon realize the folly of believing in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause all rolled into one “messiah” prancing about on the stage giving speeches in black face.

In less than one administration, Obama and his “pals” will both bankrupt and expose the Republic to catastrophes we’ve never experienced.

Obama and his fools in power - will show the wisdom of our founders in giving us a REPUBLIC and NOT mob rule by democracy...

Democracy requires the citizenry to be of a caliber and intelligence America no longer demonstrates.

Bloody great. Can you image being on the jury of that case.

They would have to put you and your entire family, under government protection for the rest of your life, so the terrorist would not kill you.

According to GlobalSecurity.org http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/guantanamo-bay_detainees.htm
“As of November 4, 2008, approximately 255 detainees remained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.”

At least 50 of them are like the Uighers who can’t go back home because they will be persecuted by the home government, but they can’t be released into the US because they are considered “security risks” because they know the details of how Guantanamo works. They actually have been cleared of terrorim charges by the DOD, but have no where to go.

Looks like DoD has been shipping a lot of them back home one or two at a time and quietly. We were up to 517 in 2004.

Of course it only takes one mistake to release someone that will blow a lot of stuff up upon release. So how many innocent - or at least exonerated people - should we hold in Gitmo for the rest of their lives to prevent the release of the one potential bomber? What would the Founding Fathers say the answer is?

They will be enlisted in his brown shirts. This is a huge pay day for attorney pals. Each trial will be a $2 million pay day for each defendant. This civil trial stuff shows the close Saudi and UAE connection.

Notice that taking care of the terrorists at Gitmo is a priority for Obama, just 6 days after the election. Bush is still president; he should ship them all to the mountains of Afghanistan for “safekeeping”.

Thank you. If someone wants to take the blame for this mess, by all means, they can.

Just count me out. I am NOT responsible for obama getting elected.

This collective guilt stuff is for the birds.

I want to move out into the middle of nowhere so when this Obama mess crumbles in on itself I will be buffered.

What a mess!

Does anyone know the legislative angle of this? It sounded like 0 would have to get congress on board to set up court arrangements for those left to try (sounds like about 175 guys). An executive order will not do it. So, who can we put pressure on to publicize/stop the measure? Will the spaghetti-spined guys in the senate do anything?
