I don't want to spoil futue chances to convert them.
Act like you agree with them. Give Obama the benefit of doubt at first (don’t worry he will soon do plenty to burst their bubble). For example, Say even though I didn’t support Obama, I can sure use that tax break. Then when the paychecks actually start getting smaller, simply comment “what gives I thought only the rich were going to get screwed - where is our tax break.
I’ve already run into it twice today with absolute strangers mouthing off, and since no one knows who I voted for, I voiced my rapture about how Zero will bring the troops home by March, make peace with Iran and Hamas and pull all our bases out from all over the world, impeach Bush and Company, give stimulus checks in the thousands of bucks, free college education, free mortgage money for the foreclosed, and so forth.
Yes, they believe it. And as soon as I can think up more gimmes and heaven-on-earth scenarios, I will continue.
The bigger that god gets, the more disappointing will be the fall.
With family, that’s easy. I refuse to answer the phone today.
And, what friends?
*None of mine would vote for Zero, and the one that did is persona non grata.
Let us all know when you figure out how to “unfry” an egg.
What about them alienating you? Do not your beliefs earn respect, also?
That’s my rule. if they respect my beliefs, then I’ll respect theirs. If not, then take a long walk off of a short pier.
(Are you listening my Florida Brother?)
It won’t be long before they start crying about the price of petrol, higher taxes, higher interest rates and more. Just keep smirking when they do.
I would say congratulations on him winning the campaign but I will hold my judgement until I see him govern.
The promises of the campaign are rarely the reality of the world that faces a candidate—especially one with as short a resume as Obama!
Ill make sure to afford the same respect to Obama as you did to Pres. Bush
I believe this is the first septuple post on FR!
You can simply remind them that the Democrats have been in charge of the Senate and the House for two years. Knowing that, are you better off now than you were two years ago? And knowing that the Democrats are in control of the White House, the Senate, and the House, are you going to better off in two years; four years? It isn’t a point that can be argued just yet, but tell them that you are willing to wait for their answer in two years and four years.
My sister supported Clinton. I just told her “He’s going to have to be the President for you to see why he shouldn’t be.” I’ll stand by that. I also told her he’d be impeached(this was in ‘92), so I think I gained some credibility. And I’m sure she voted for The Zero, so we know what credibility means to the left.
I have some in-laws and shirt-tail relatives who are politically insane but, as you suggest, I certainly don’t want to alienate them .....
So I was thinking that during the holidays I might have them over for a pinto bean and cabbage soup dinner and we will freely discuss the recent election.
Then, as soon as I feel these comestibles take effect, I will rise from the table, lift a haunch, “trumpet” then yell:
“Catch this in your teeth!”
Priceless. I might print that and put it in a time capsule somewhere...
I shall refer to him now as Mr. Obama.
“Ill make sure to afford the same respect to Obama as you did to Pres. Bush”
That’s my take on it.
Steal the O’s off all their keyboards.
I only surround myself with conservative friends and my whole family is conservative. I don’t have time for “democratic friends”.....
Anyway, they take themselves to damn seriously and are no fun.
Thank you!
“As you know, I did not vote for him. However, God commands me to pray for him, and I will. I pray that I would be amazed at how wrong I was and that he will become a champion of the unborn, a man who respects private property over redistribution of wealth, a fiscally responsible person who asks twice or three times if it is ok to take someones hard earned money for a good idea, and a leader for values that made the USA a leader in the world. I expect none of those things and I hope I am terribly wrong. Obama is just a man. He will, as I will, have to answer to God for how he lives his life. I will pray for him that he will live better than I do, because as our president, he needs to. Mostly, I pray that he will understand that failure is common to all men, and that Christ is the solution for a cosmic failures. He will need an assurance like that. No one can handle all the responsibilities of that office without failing repeatedly”
If you really pray that first, instead of just saying that you pray it. You will say what you need to say without being hateful.
As Dr. Phil might say - “You voted for Socialism! How’s that working for you NOW?”
Ignore the shock and awe on their sullen faces by 2012.
