President Obama: How Bad Will It Be?
Special to FreeRepublic ^ | 5 Nov 2008 | John Armor (Congressman Billybob)

Posted on 11/05/2008 7:51:34 AM PST by Congressman Billybob

Let us take two sources – the statements made by Barack Obama as a candidate and the lessons of history – combine them and make some predictions. The results are not pretty.

These three results -- a new World War, a new Great Depression, and permanent damage to the Constitution – are given in decreasing order of damage to the United States. That happens to be the reverse of their odds of happening. Though to me, as a student of the US Constitution, the last item is still critically bad.

Based on his repeated comments about Iran and Pakistan, Obama will coddle our sworn enemy, Iran, and will invade and antagonize our shaky but critical ally, Pakistan. Yes, I know we have done cross-border raids into Pakistan’s lawless border territory. But we have kept those in the lowest possible profile to avoid antagonizing a critical ally whose population is mostly Muslim and who possesses working nuclear weapons.

Either over a nuclear Iran, or as a result of an induced revolt in Pakistan, we are likely to be in a global war with the Muslims within a year of Obama being sworn into office. Pick up any book on the events which lead to World War II, Read the chapter on Neville Chamberlain. Then you will know more than Obama does about geopolitical reality.

Odds of a world war between the civilized nations and the uncivilized ones, 50 percent.

In the last quarter the Gross National Product of the US declined by 0.3 percent. It is a near certainty that the GNP report for the 4th quarter will also show a decline, meaning that we will actually be in a recession. But, as Dr. Thomas Sowell pointed out, it will at that point be a mild recession.

How does Obama propose to deal with this situation? He proposes protectionist foreign trade policies and higher taxes.

What does history teach us? Pick up any book on this history of the Great Depression in the US. Look in the index for taxes, Herbert Hoover, and the Hawley-Smoot Tariff. The policies that Obama says he is going to carry out are the worst choices to make, unless the intention is deliberately turn a mild recession into a bone-rattling, deep depression.

Odds of a new Great Depression as a result of Obama becoming President, 70 percent, though it may take more than a year to become evident to the editors of the NY Times.

Obama has made clear that he will appoint judges, and Justices to the Supreme Court, who will alter their decisions depending on who the parties in the case are. Senator Chuck Shumer, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee which reviews and recommends judicial appointees to the whole Senate, has taken the same position.

Everyone reading this is familiar with the statute of Justice as a woman in a flowing robe. In one hand she holds a sword, because justice represents the power of the state to decide between civil parties and to punish under the criminal law. In her other hand, she raises high a set of scales. These represent the idea that she will decide the case before her on the law and the facts, without fear or favor.

Most importantly, Justice wears a blindfold. This represents the idea that she will NOT decide a case based on who the parties are who appear before her. She will obey the law and follow the facts. No more, no less. Yet Obama has made clear his intention to appoint judges/Justices who will do the opposite.

Not just all judges, but all public officials at all levels, take an oath of office to preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States. That Constitution is, as it says in its text, “the supreme law.” Yet, Obama is committed to appoint judges who will not respect the Constitution, but instead will do whatever they want to do personally.

Odds that judges will be appointed who will wipe their feet on the Constitution, rather than preserve and defend the Constitution, 100 percent. Since judges serve for life, these judges willing to violate their oaths of office will remain on the bench for 30 years or so, far beyond the four years of the Obama Administration.

Millions of lives, billions of dollars, and the very future of the US Constitution are at stake. I hope my predictions prove to be wrong. But with the last one, I am certain with every fiber of my being, that I am correct.

After last night, it became obvious to me that democrats didn’t beat the Republicans. Republicans beat themselves. Either Republicans evaluate what and who they are and what they represent or the people need a third party. Now is the time to decide or let everything go to hell. I believe that the voters are going to regret what they have done. One thing they can do is refuse to ratify any changes to the Constitution. They must wait and see the long term effects of what Obama’s decisions are.

Nope, there won't be a war. At least with the US. Obama is going to leave his brothers alone and they are going to leave him alone. They're going to do horrible things worldwide, but they won't mess with the US too much because they know that an Obama Presidency is the best thing that could ever happen to them.

That is my feeling, too. I will not watch or particpate in his inauguration or watch one newscast on TV, except the weather channel for at least two years.

Welcome to the first affirmative action president. 183 days experience in a Senate Office. Assisted by a rampant and uncontrolled left wing media and a dishonest campaign bought and paid for by hostile sources and voted in large part by thousands, if not millions , of voters who can’t tie their own laces. They get the government they deserve. as for thr rest of us, we live to fight another day.

We’re in so much trouble. This goes beyond our comprehension of anything we can imagine.

Why will we be in a war with the Muslims. We’ve got a muslim in the white house who will simply surrender.

Visualize Obama standing outside of Air Force one just after his returning from his important meeting with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (hastily arranged after Iran wiped Israel off the map) proclaiming peace in our time.

Any bets as to how long it will take Ruth Bader-Ginsberg to hand in her retirement papers? She’s been hanging by a thread despite ill-health in hopes of at Dem president.

There is an ‘extra-dimension’ to Afghanistan that doesn’t exist in Iraq: Afghanistan has always been a NATO operation. Whenever NATO is involved there are always “other considerations” besides domestic politics.

I agree that Obama will likely fold a strong hand in Iraq, but Afghanistan is not ‘automatic’.

I heard the same quote from Bill Federer.
It is now time to take back the GOP, or actually start a viable party. One not beholden to anything but what is right. Ahh, the oath to the constitution.I took it, and still maintain it.

I'm afraid you're right on how bad it will be. My question: With the Affirmative Action President, will we learn from the first term?

My guess is that nothing will stick to The One. A mild recession that gets worse? The media will say, "that's the Bush Recession - imagine how bad it would have been if we didn't have Obama spreading the wealth to cushion the effects." A war that spreads to more uncivilized countries? The media will tell us how much better off we are with The One keeping it from spreading further. Trampling the Constitution? The media will claim that the Court is doing its job by giving special protection to the weakest among us. I doubt that anyone will realize what it means to set the precedent that the actual words in the Constitution mean nothing, at least not until too late.

Even then, they will blame the depression on Bush and the Republicans and suggest, or better still, demand, that the Obama policies that created the depression be extended because they were "the only things keeping it from being worse".

In short, the standard narrative will be that everything that goes well will be proof of Obama's near-deity status and everything that goes wrong will still be the fault of Bush and the GOP, and thankfully Obama saved us from it being worse.

I’m curious as to why you ranked permanent damage to the Constitution last in importance. Did you perhaps substitute “decreasing” where you meant “increasing”? Wars and depressions come and go, but the Constitution is a transcendent document. IMHO, it’s destruction is the greatest threat of the Obamer Oddministration.

The Brits already want to bring in the Talis and the others don’t count. Some of the NATO contingents, the Canucks, the Danes, and the Dutch have been first rate troopers, but their govts see no benefit to killed in action notices in their press. A decent interval, to reprise a phrase from Kissinger, will be given and then out we’ll go. To be replaced in the region by???? Putin???

“The Affirmative Action President” - that’s three of us who have used the name, and I think it’s a perfect fit. It’s truthful and dismissive, which is just the right start for the four years of hell that The One is going to try to put free Americans through. I hope and pray that he will have enough problems and scandals to keep him too busy to implement much of his socialist agenda, and relentless attacks against the “The Affirmative Action President” and imeediate questioning of his motives and qualifications for each item on his agenda (see the past 8 years for an example) are a good start.
