Scientists Identify Brain's 'Hate Circuit'

WEDNESDAY, Oct. 29 (HealthDay News) -- British researchers say they've identified a "hate circuit" in the brain. This hate circuit shares part of the brain associated with aggression, but is distinct from areas related to emotions such as fear, threat, and danger, said researchers Professor Semir Zeki and John Romaya, of University College London's laboratory of neurobiology. The study was published online Oct. 29 in the journal PLoS One. "Hate is often considered to be an evil passion that should, in a better world, be tamed, controlled, and eradicated," Zeki said in a journal news release. "Yet to the biologist, hate is a passion that is of equal interest to love. Like love, it is often seemingly irrational and can lead individuals to heroic and evil deeds. How can two opposite sentiments lead to the same behavior?" In this study, 17 female and male volunteers underwent brain scans while they looked at photos of a person they hated, along with photos of a "neutral" person. Looking at images of hated people triggered activity in an area that includes structures in the cortex and in the sub-cortex as well as components that generate aggressive behavior and translate it into action.

They also discovered the “hate circuit” is found only in white people and the number gets higher when you look at people not voting for Obama....

“What passes for science seems to be pretty much nonsense nowadays...”

That’s why. That “nonsense” “passes for science” in the muslim world. My response to that post. Plus, it’s pretty durn funny in a sad way.

What passes for science seems to be pretty much nonsense nowadays...

What an unfortunate reaction, it's a really interesting paper.

Neural Correlates of Hate

I'll grant you that reading original science articles isn't for the general public. But I'd bet firearm owners would believe if they could see the results of Obama's reaction when looking at the mug of John R. Lott Jr.

John R. Lott Jr.: Taking aim at Obama's stance on gun control

This evidence should be sufficient, but I have yet another reason to be skeptical. I knew Obama during the mid-1990s, when we were both at the University of Chicago Law School. Indeed, when I introduced myself to him, he said, "Oh, you are the gun guy."

I responded, "Yes, I guess so." His response, as I recall it, was, "I don't believe that people should be able to own guns."

When I said it might be fun sometime to talk about the question and his support of Chicago's lawsuit against gunmakers, he simply grimaced and turned away, ending the conversation.
