Coalition Troops Kill 19 Militants, Detain 3 in Eastern Afghanistan
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Nov. 2, 2008 Coalition forces killed 19 armed militants and detained three suspects Oct. 31 during multiple operations to disrupt the Haqqani, Taliban, and al-Qaida homemade-bomb and foreign-fighter networks in eastern Afghanistan.
In Dara Noor District, coalition forces targeted a known al-Qaida leader believed to facilitate the movement of foreign fighters and weapons into Konar province. The leader also is believed to be in contact with other militants in the region, coordinating attacks against coalition forces and civilians.
As the forces began a search of the targeted compound they were immediately engaged by two armed militants inside the first building. Coalition forces responded with small-arms fire, killing both militants.
Following the engagement, the forces moved to a second building in the compound. As they approached the building multiple armed militants exited the building, attempting to maneuver on the forces and engaging them with small-arms fire.
Coalition forces returned fire, killing five armed militants, including one armed female. One suspect was detained during the operation.
A second operation, in Nadar Shahkot District, targeted a militant known to have ties to both the Taliban and Haqqani terrorist networks. The target also is known to coordinate and direct bomb attacks in the region.
As the troops approached the vehicle the target was in, he and another militant inside reached for AK-47s. Faced with the hostile intent, the forces engaged both small-arms fire, killing them.
Upon a search of the vehicle, coalition forces discovered explosives. The vehicle was destroyed because of the threat it presented to both the forces and local civilians.
Also in Nader Shah Kowt, Coalition forces killed 10 armed militants and detained two suspects during an operation directed at a known Haqqani facilitator of homemade bombs and suicide bombers.
As the forces attempted to search the compound they were engaged by several groups of armed militants with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades. Coalition forces responded with small-arms fire, killing six, including the targeted Haqqani militant.
A search of the compound revealed multiple AK-47s, an RPG, RPG rounds, a pistol and other military style equipment.
As the forces attempted to leave the compound they took heavy fire from militants inside a building. Coalition forces engaged the militants with precision, close-air support to neutralize the threat.

Troops Dismantle Drug Nest, Deal Blow to Taliban Finances
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2008 Coalition and Afghan forces today dismantled a drug-making facility in southeastern Afghanistan and destroyed 44 tons of hashish in what military officials say is a major blow to funding terrorists in the country.
Todays discovery clearly demonstrated the links between the Taliban and drug trafficking, said Army Col. Greg Julian, U.S. Forces Afghanistan spokesman. The huge amount of drugs destroyed today will greatly hinder the Talibans ability to fund their ongoing, hopeless struggle to subjugate the Afghan people.
Afghan commandos and coalition forces were searching an area known for insurgent activities in the Spin Buldak district of Kandahar province when the facility was discovered, officials said. The search of the area is ongoing, they said.
In other news from Afghanistan, coalition and Afghan forces killed two militants yesterday in the Maywand district of Kandahar province during a search of an insurgent compound there.
During the search, militants engaged the troops with small-arms fire. The troops responded with small-arms fire, killing two, officials said.
After the engagement, the combined forces discovered a bomb-making facility containing explosives, 10 pounds of heroin, 4 pounds of opium, a small weapons cache and a torture device. The cache was confiscated and the drugs and explosives were destroyed, officials said.
No Afghan, coalition or civilian casualties were reported in either operation.

Troops Capture Two Dozen Terrorist Suspects in Iraq
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2008 Coalition forces in Iraq captured 24 suspected terrorist operatives in three days of operations, military officials reported today.
The operations targeted al-Qaida in Iraq in the central and northern regions of the country, mostly today and yesterday, officials said.
In a series of coordinated operations in Mosul today, coalition troops degraded al-Qaida in Iraq’s bomb network, capturing a man who intelligence reports suggest oversees the movement of bomb-making materials into the city, officials said. The suspect is believed to deal directly with senior bomb-making leaders in the region. Eleven others suspects were detained during the operations.
Also today, troops captured a man believed to have connections to multiple al-Qaida in Iraq contacts in the region, officials said. Four additional suspects believed to be his associates were detained for further questioning. Troops discovered multiple rifles and magazines along with bomb-making materials at the site.
Troops operating in Amariyah, about 33 miles southwest of Baghdad, captured a man yesterday who is suspected of aiding in car- and roadside-bomb attacks in the area. The man, who surrendered, is believed to have connections to al-Qaida in Iraq leaders in the region, officials said.
Also yesterday, coalition troops detained a terrorist suspect in Mosul and another in Beiji, about 100 miles south of the city, they said.
In other recent operations:
— Coalition and Iraqi security forces detained three suspected terrorists Nov. 1 in southern Baghdads Rashid district and seized a 57 mm warhead, three mortar fuses, a rocket fuse, three blocks of plastic explosives and three grenade fuses.
— Soldiers with the 4th Infantry Divisions 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, captured a terrorist suspect yesterday in southern Baghdads Aamel community.
— Coalition and Iraqi forces found multiple weapons caches yesterday in Baghdad that included four rocket motors, 19 flares, two hand grenades, a bag of AK-47 assault rifle ammunition, a 120 mm high-explosive mortar round, 15 57 mm anti-aircraft projectiles, a can of 14.5 heavy machine gun rounds, three 82 mm mortars, a 73 mm high-explosive projectile, three 100 mm projectiles, two rocket motors and Lebanese currency.

First it was baby milk formula. Then, dairy-based products from yogurt to chocolate.
Now chicken eggs have been contaminated with melamine, and an admission by state-run media that the industrial chemical is regularly added to animal feed in China fueled fears Friday that the problem could be more widespread, affecting fish, meat and who knows what else.

“Iranian Group Recruits Iranian Volunteers for Anti-U.S. Martyrdom [Suicide] Operations to be Carried Out by Hizbullah”
SNIPPET: “On November 1, 2008, the Iranian website Tabnak, which is identified with Expediency Council Secretary and former IRGC commander Mohsen Rezai, reported that flyers have recently been circulated in Iran calling on the public, especially young people, to sign up for martyrdom operations to be carried out by the Lebanese Hizbullah. The flyer promises registrants that they will become “fighters in the worldwide front against the Global Arrogance [i.e. the U.S.].”

“THE MIND OF JIHAD”
By RALPH PETERS
November 2, 2008 —
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Murawiec painstakingly dissects the roots of the current Islamist jihad against our civilization. He employs the extensive Muslim literature on the subject to explode the nonsensical claim that “true jihad” is an innocent personal struggle, rather than a theology of conquest.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The text details the evolution of holy-war doctrines over the centuries of Islam’s existence, and provides proof that conquest-oriented jihad has always been integral to various schools of the faith.”

American elections: A historic Intifada called Barack Obama

TRANSLATION - SNIPPET: “The editor of daily newspaper Al Quds Al Arabi, Abdelbari Atwane (first journalist to have met Usama Bin Laden), reconsiders in his leading article of November 3 the American elections. Under the provocative title Intifada history of Obama, which refers Palestinian to Intifada rented so much by the daily newspaper, Atwane stresses that in the absence of a catastrophe, Obama will be elected, and the American people, through his vote, will have launched his more important Intifada.”

“Treasury Sells Out to Shari’a”
By Frank J. Gaffney Jr.
FrontPageMagazine.com | Tuesday, November 04, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “This week will be all about the new order in Washington. Whether Tuesdays balloting results in an administration populated by a President Obama or a President McCain, one thing is already clear: The U.S. Treasury Department is submitting to Shariah the seditious religio-political-legal code authoritative Islam seeks to impose worldwide under a global theocracy.
As reported in this space last week, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Robert Kimmitt set the stage with his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich Persian Gulf states. His stated purpose was to promote the recycling of petrodollars in the form of foreign investment here.
Evidently, the price demanded by his hosts is that the U.S. government get with the Islamist financial program. While in Riyadh, Kimmitt announced: The U.S. government is currently studying the salient features of Islamic banking to ascertain how far it could be useful in fighting the ongoing world economic crisis.
Islamic banking is a euphemism for a practice better known as Shariah-Compliant Finance (SFC). And it turns out that this week the Treasury will be taking officials from various federal agencies literally to school on SFC.”
