Terror threats remain, even with bombers now dead (Bali)

The following article reports a former senior Yemeni al-Qaeda says that UBL is in the later stages of planning a big attack against the US.
A few things in the statement make sense 1) the end of the truce (”the period of calmness”) in Yemen came as a result of an order from bin Laden, not because of agitation from returnees from Iraq, 2) the continuing importance of the original trusted network of Yemenis, 3) bin Laden’s ability to communicate with operatives in Yemen.....continues

Been monitoring the RUMINT on this one. We’ve seen a lot of boasting over the past many years with nothing really panning out. However, this scenario does pull some similarities and meets stated goals of AQ
1. US Economy hurting - far more so than in 01 when we were struggling with the Clinton recession during W’s first term. AQ stated objective was to strike at the American economy. History shows that it most definitely did. An even bigger attack would cause oil to probably exceed $200/bl and cause even greater turmoil.
2. Could occur in a period of changing administrations AND parties. It will take the obamination some time to get his foreign and military policy folks focused. There will be a window of opportunity to strike while C3 is weak. Not sure if AQ sees Bush as such a lame duck that he won’t respond or have his hands tied to respond if an attack so I’m not sure a pre Inauguration attack is viable or not.
3. Silence on OBL’s part and our progressive victories taking out AQ leadership and cannon fodder may force OBL’s hand to place him back on center stage and not relegated to the backwater of news.
And thank fully at that, since we now know that many plans were thwarted.

Bin Laden Aide ‘Planned Escape’
A radical cleric, once described as Osama bin Laden’s right-hand man, is back behind bars in the UK after he allegedly planned to escape the country.
Abu Qatada is back in jail accused of breaching his bail conditions.
He will appear before an immigration hearing and could be sent to prison permanently.

Qatada was first arrested in 2001 by anti-terrorism police. He was carrying £170,000 in cash, including £805 in an envelope marked “For the mujahedin in Chechnya”.
He had been convicted in his absence in the Middle East of involvement with terror attacks in 1998 and of plotting to plant bombs for the Millennium.
#1 Take a cell phone pic of the vandalism. Take several and make sure to get a face shot. #2 Buy yourself a stun device, taser or something. I like the normal contact stun device that emits the LOUD "fryin' Bacon" sound. Acts as a great deterrent, even to folks high on drugs or drunk. Nobody wants to get Tased these days. If you do have to make contact use it low (on a guy -- get the hint?) and make sure you have a sustained 2-5 second contact to really communicate your point of view. I promise, you'll win that argument.
