A look at gun sales and the economy, with Ted Novin, National Shooting Sports Federation director, public affairs

One of my local area dealers is offering an interesting trade-in deal for those with old, used AR15 rifles and clones thereof: trade in your old one now for an even trade for a new one that should arrive from the factory in about three weeks. That lets him sell the used piece now at the dealer price of a new one, and he makes his money selling magazines and ammo, and more new-gun accessories later.
I came pretty close to trading in my *middle bear* CAR-15 carbine, which is neither full-length rifle nor the latest M4 version, and which has 1:9 twist *compromise* rifling for either an M16A2-version semi or an M4 semi, and had we been able to reach an accomodation on the magazines and accessories I had for it, which I was willing either to keep for the others or swap for ammo, we might have struck a deal- he's out of decent M16 magazines.
Tomorrow's another day, and he'll be open Monday. After that, all bets are off.

Double tap.
The gun stores here have been packed when I’ve been in them over the past few weeks. Obama has inspired me to buy a few new guns recently—a Springfield XD45(which I would have gotten sooner or later), a Bushmaster AR(a type of gun I had no interest in before Obama), and a Yugoslavian underfolder AK(another type of gun I wasn’t interested in before Obama but I ran across one locally, and it’s cheaper to buy and shoot than my AR, plus it just looks cool.)
I finally got around to buying extra ammo today.
stopping by Graf and Sons to pick up powder, bullets, and Primers during Christmas and dust off the dillon 550 got plenty of brass
We traveled home from Reno, NV on Tuesday morning. Listening to Rush’s show the local tag story was ‘local gun sales up sharply in recent days, we’ll explain why...’
I got my AR-15 right at 1000 dollars. Its a new Rock River Arms entry tactical model.
Very nice.
Yeah, I handload too. Mostly handgun ammo; .38,.357, .45ACP,.475Linebaugh; and .45-70, .308, and .338 Lapua Magnum rifle loads. I find .223 a PITA to handload so I just buy that.
I needed a long gun so I bought a Winchester Model 70 (30-06) from a friend. Darn good sniper rifle with a good scope. The 70 replaces my SKS when I need to reach out and touch something.
I'm going to a gun show on Saturday 11/1 to stock up on ammo - heck, I might even buy another gun. I hope to take the rifle to the range this week while I am off from work.
I figure if the SHTF, I should be sufficiently armed with one of my shotguns (00 buck and #4 birdshot), the pistol and my parka pockets full of shells and spare clips. I hope and pray that I am wrong, but it would be irresponsible if I did not prepare for the worst.
Keep your powder dry.
I bought the Ruger P95 about 2 weeks ago and love it. FOr the price, I don’t think it can be beat.
Am looking to get a Kimber .45 in the near future (and possibly an AR-15 if Obama is actually elected)
That’s the stupidest, cowardly statement yet.
I have a P95 as well. Nice for the price. I’m looking for a more compact handgun for concealed carry.
What? That they could use the subscription files to find out who may have guns?????
The Dem’s have already used donation files to target voters ....
I agree, Red. I got mine used for $350 and have been to the range several times. Lots of fun.

Kimber firearms are really nice. I'd get one if I could afford it. As for an AR-15, I'd like to get one so I can be the first person on my block with two "assault weapons" (laughing in a sinister manner). Again, the cost is prohibitive - especially an Armalite version. I saw a firearm at a gun show that looked very much like a AR-15 with a collapsible stock and it was about $600. IIRC, it was labeled with a CZ or something like that, but I didn't see anything on CZ's website that resembled it. The nice thing about this rifle was that it wasn't regulated. (here in the People's Republic of Maryland I had to wait ten days before I got my WASR-10 and my P-95) I could have walked out with it that day.
Oh well - better wait until I have some more cash, but if Lord Barack The Most Merciful becomes Grand Poobah I will only have until January 20.
Today I went to the store where got my AK to buy a few magazines and some ammo. They were cleaned out of magazines and didn’t have any 7.62x39 ammo left either. Said a guy had just bought 40,000 rounds of it. They’re supposed to be getting more on Monday though. I did manage to pick up a few boxes at Sportsman’s Warehouse and probably should pick up a few more boxes there in case the ammo doesn’t come through at the other place on Monday.
If not, I'm sure I can get plenty of 12 gauge shells and cartridges for the 9mm.
Stay safe and keep your powder dry.
And this is just a start:
