... For Congressman of the 1st Congressional District, the Executive Committee was faced with two very good candidates. As we are not making endorsements but merely recommendations, we felt no conflict in recommending both Bobby Rush and Barak Obama...
Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grass roots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy. To volunteer, call 773 846 2262. Contributions may be sent to Obama for Congress 2000, PO Box 497987, Chicago, IL 60649. ...
“Wow. This is news four days before the election! Youd think he would have used this bit of info to impress NY voters in the primary.”
Ayers (while at Bank Street College in NYC headed by his father, Thomas) got Obama the community organizer job (fall 1984 until spring 1985) through a Ralph nadar outfit called NYPIR that was located on the campus of (radical Marxist political group ridden) City College of New York (CCNY). Obama held the job 3 months over the early spring of 1985.
At this point, Obama has known Ayers and wife Dorn since meeting them at a Stokley Carmichael speech about Marxism and Black Panther Party/Black Power at Coopers Union College near Columbia a few months back. Obama graduated from Columbia in 1983, but he stayed in NYC to work until mid-spring of 1985.
Prior to working for NYPIR at CCNY, Obama worked as an investments writer at a company in NYC that was said to be a front for the CIA.
After this job, Obama worked for 3 weeks (October-Nov 1984) on the campaign of an alderman candidate in Brooklyn who lost to Democrat challenger Vito Lopez
“Will you put this in a Time line of BH Obamas life?”

ACORN - ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS FOR REFORM NOW
This says he "community organized" for five years.
How about the socialism? Obama was denying being a socialist just last week.
Your excerpt says one year. The above article says 5 years. His own bio page claims he was only in NY for 4 years.

Excerpt:
After about a year, he was hired by the New York Public Interest Research Group, a nonprofit organization that promotes consumer, environmental and government reform. He became a full-time organizer at City College in Harlem, paid slightly less than $10,000 a year to mobilize student volunteers.
Mr. Obama says he spent three months trying to convince minority students at City College about the importance of recycling a description that surprised some former colleagues. They said that more bread-and-butter issues like mass transit, higher education, tuition and financial aid were more likely the emphasis at City College.
I’d read that 5 years as spanning NY and Chicago.
>>>...in Harlem and in Chicago
You’re right. I did miss read that. Thx!
How DID HE GET the $$$ for coke? I used to smoke pot years ago, and needed a job to pay for it, and it was cheaper than coke would have been...He either did guys for money (let them do him) OR dealt drugs OR had a job OR got money from his grandparents OR committed crimes such as stealing, purse snatching...

The whole document is interesting, but if your a 2nd Amendment person, make sure to read the last 4 paragraphs
Lot of money for an unemployed student.
The pot was probably free. Hawaii, at the time was the source of something called “Maui Wowie” and it was growing all over the Islands.
On pp. 138, 139 of DREAMS OF MY FATHER, Obama tells of getting a job in community organizing in Haarlem:
“I needed a job closer to the streets. I spent three months working for a Ralph Nader offshoot up in Haarlem, trying to convince the minority students at City College about the importance of recycling. Then a week passing out flyers for an assemblyman’s race in Brooklyn - the candidate lost and I never did get paid.”
So he didn’t merely live close to Ayers during those days. He definitely had a connection with him.....
excerpt:
The hunt for Obamas senior thesis began with a throwaway line in a newspaper article last October. The New York Times story, on Obamas early New York years, mentioned in passing that the presidential contender had majored in political science at Columbia and had spent his time writing his thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament.
Journalists began hounding Columbia University for copies of the musty document. Conservative bloggers began wondering if the young Obama had written a no-nukes screed that he might come to regret. And David Bossie, the former congressional investigator and right-wing hit man, as one newspaper described him, took out classified newspaper ads in Columbia Universitys newspaper and the Chicago Tribune in March searching for the term paper.
Bossie came up dry, but said the effort was well worth it:
A thesis entitled Soviet Nuclear Disarmament, written at the height of The Cold War in 1983, might shed some light upon what Barack Obama thought about our most pressing foreign policy issue for 40-plus years (U.S.-Soviet Relations), he wrote in an e-mail to NBC News.

Here is the passage from the New York Times that the above article refers to:
"He barely mentions Columbia, training ground for the elite, where he transferred in his junior year, majoring in political science and international relations and writing his thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament. He dismisses in one sentence his first community organizing job work he went on to do in Chicago though a former supervisor remembers him as 'a star performer.'"
