Obama campaign disregards current state polls showing Obama ahead (Obi-Wan tells NRO)
National Review Online - Campaign Spot ^ | 10/29/08 | Jim Geraghty on NRO Campaign Spot

'Hildebrand said the [Obama] campaign disregards current state polls showing Obama ahead.'

Earlier today, Obi Wan told me to expect something big and surprising from Fox News. I didn't post it, because I wanted to see if it would pan out before I raised expectations...

Well, here it is.

In a phone interview with FOX News, Barack Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand said: “John McCain is right. Things are tightening in the battleground states.”

FOX News obtained a copy of a memo Hildebrand sent to long-standing Democratic operatives on Tuesday.

The memo, shown below, reveals the extensive get-out-the-vote efforts Obama’s team has underway and “urgent” needs that have yet to be met.

Hildebrand told FOX News he sent the memo out to boost efforts in Florida but that similar memos were also sent out seeking help in North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio. He said needs were less acute in Pennsylvania.

Hildebrand said the campaign disregards current state polls showing Obama ahead.

"They were not always a good indicator in the primaries so we’re working hard now. We feel good but we always need more help in the field. On the ground in these states, things feel like they are tightening."

So he should lose OH?

I am no insider though I know someone who knows someone who is a lifelong Dem GOTV ward type pol for a SW state Obama thinks he is going to win. My close friend said these ward type pols are working for McCain. Not sure if they are PUMAs or what is going on but they can turn this state. This is not top secret stuff. Anyone on the ground in the know would know this.

My take now is Obama is trying to set “firebreaks” or is retreating and trying to hold a state after losing one. I think he may have given up on OH or is hoping ACORN fraud can save it. He also may know FL is lost too. I think McCain should win NC. VA should also go McCain.

It looks like it is a battle to the death in PA. If McCain bags PA then Obama is finished. Remember Hillary won PA 55% to 45% and Obama outspent her 3 to 1.

Our advantage should be that McCain/GOP should be felling pretty good about the base showing up. Obama will get a lot of AA voters but the fall off of Hillary voters is what will probably doom his campaign.

Egad...Hildebrand...that name again. He’s a Daschle thug. I got to see his odious presence at the last-gasp hearing when Daschle filed suit just ahead of going down in 2004. It was funny to watch his defeated butt walk out of the courtroom to the jeers of onlookers that night when he realized it was over.

Don’t write off NM. From what I have vaguely posted here and what Desert Rhino and others in NM posted - we think McCain takes NM. NV is not a shoo-in for Obama either.

I think McCain can win PA. We may pickup 6 house seats in PA.

I am not sure about CO. I think the Catholic Church bishops in PA, CO and NM have been very direct on abortion in this election. Far more than any other election. This will count for a lot in the Italian American & other Catholics in PA and Hispanic Catholics in NM and CO. I think the Church is pretty alarmed about a guy named Hussein who lived in Indonesia (largest Islamic country in the world). The Church knows quite a bit about Islam.

The evangelicals in CO are also motivated as are the Mormons. The Mormons are huge in UT but they are also in the SW and California. You may also get some of the Bradley effect with Hispanic voters.

I get you now.

>In my mind I was looking at them thinking “Double Plus Crazy” or “You Pigs really think you are more equal”

“Double Plus Crazy?” Is that a _Brave New World_ reference? I catch the _Animal Farm_ ref. My senior year, I read as many of the communist distopia novels as the high school library carried.

Here’s some sober analysis. I can’t find the post I wrote about it, but about two or three weeks ago I took a look at the internals of a Newsweek poll nad found they had McCain winning whites by 1 point and losing men by 14 points. Yet, in 1996 Bob Dole lost by 9 points in the popular vote and he won men by several points. There’s no way the samples in these polls is anywhere close to reality, nd polls are the only reason to believe Obama has this thing won.

Thank you Master Obi wan.......

Unfortunately, I have one of those Deadheads O'bomber voters living across the street....White, female, born to hippy parents on the Island of St. Thomas, College educated at Columbia, married, moved to Delaware, loyal NPR listener, Husband gets Executive Veep HR. position and moves to Ohio (to polute our red state with her socialist values) lives in a 500K home......

....but there's the blasted O'bomber sign in their front yard.

Forest Gump's momma was right .......Stupid is as Stupid does.....

One good note though: Her husband will cancel out her vote....here's hoping he has a very, very long life.

What are "nd polls"? Notre Dame isn't even close to cracking the top 25. If they do, does McCain have a shot?

Ha, good story, hey, now there is a $200,000 K bounty on the Khalidi tape, I’m starting to believe the GOP has it, this could be the “whitey” Video, in other words there is no whitey video, that was just to mask that they had a Khalidi video.

All I know is that this is a county Bush lost twice, by 2% each time, and we have consistently had McCain up, outside the MOE, here. It would be very, very difficult for Obama to lose this county and "make it up" someplace else, because Cleveland and Cincy cancel; Warren and Franklin cancel.

Let me understand what you are saying: the DEM ward pols are all working for McCain? Do you mean stealth or openly?

Finally, unless you are giving CO to Obama, he has already lost with the scenario you lay out. VA, OH, FL, CO, and NV=274. McCain doesn't need PA.

Hey, that's $50,000 over O'bomber's tax plan limit....that's an outrage!.....he will have to pay dearly for being too rich......

Ah. I read 1984 that year. In case you haven’t read it, the society is all genetically engineered and separated into castes. The top tier is Double Alpha Plus. I thought you were making a ref and winking about it.

There has been a concerted AA effort in GA. Most R’s are going to flock to vote later this week or Tuesday. They WILL come based on all the discussion I have had with folks. Don’t sweat the numbers until Tuesday night.

I refer to them as ward pols. From what I have heard from people who know them they are like a state ward pol because it is a small state. They are supposedly very plugged in and strong with hispanic voters in that state. These people always vote Dem.

The word is also that the community, which are VERY devout Catholics, have been given the word from the bishop. O is totally unacceptable on his abortion positions. This is not like 2000 or 2004.

The word from the bishop in NM and PA (two in PA) that Obama is totally unaccpetable. PA may be semi-strong but in NM they are very strong. If it is the bishop versus your union or normal party voting there is no question the bishop and Church come first. These people are not Kennedy Catholics.

In addition, one FR member says more than a few old time NM Mexican Americans he has run across believe O is the AC as in anti Chr..t. Oddly, I have heard this from evangelicals I know.

Forgot to answer your question. I do not think it is stealthy at all. People know they are working McCain. The state has 3 regions. One part is pro-Repub, one is smaller in population and very Dem and the middle is bigger pop and more Dem than Repub. The small area they may flip most. The bigger area they should be able to flip enough.

You can email if you want more info. There was a thread I started here on Sat night (I think) that had more from other FR people in that state. They felt strongly that McCain will win that state.
