Obama campaign disregards current state polls showing Obama ahead (Obi-Wan tells NRO)
National Review Online - Campaign Spot ^ | 10/29/08 | Jim Geraghty on NRO Campaign Spot

'Hildebrand said the [Obama] campaign disregards current state polls showing Obama ahead.'

Earlier today, Obi Wan told me to expect something big and surprising from Fox News. I didn't post it, because I wanted to see if it would pan out before I raised expectations...

Well, here it is.

In a phone interview with FOX News, Barack Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand said: “John McCain is right. Things are tightening in the battleground states.”

FOX News obtained a copy of a memo Hildebrand sent to long-standing Democratic operatives on Tuesday.

The memo, shown below, reveals the extensive get-out-the-vote efforts Obama’s team has underway and “urgent” needs that have yet to be met.

Hildebrand told FOX News he sent the memo out to boost efforts in Florida but that similar memos were also sent out seeking help in North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio. He said needs were less acute in Pennsylvania.

Hildebrand said the campaign disregards current state polls showing Obama ahead.

"They were not always a good indicator in the primaries so we’re working hard now. We feel good but we always need more help in the field. On the ground in these states, things feel like they are tightening."

This confirms what many FReepers have suspected - even Barry's campaign is afraid of the Bradley Effect. The battlegrounds are moving our way!

Ping this one around - it’s an important nugget of good news amidst the DBM agitprop campaign.

I don’t think this is Bradley effect. I think this is where the polls always were but - as completely expected - the pollsters who did their best to influence the race from in front are now “tightening the race” to reflect reality.

Seems like 0s campaign is sending a message to its troops not to be mesmerized by the state polls showing 0 up, big in some, and to make sure they get out the vote. We should do the same.

It’s not necessarily anything like a “Bradley effect” (which probably did not apply in that case either - the CA polling was terrible in that campaign).

It’s (1) fake poll recipes that have over-sampled Dems, and (2) pollsters now have to try to be accurate in the final days before Nov. 4, and (3) more people are paying attention and thinking about what the radical socialist Obama really represents.

Propagating the idea that Obama’s problems have anything to do with race is simply a left-wing talking point.

I agree.

But it might just be another Scare tactic.

I would rather the Obama campaign buy into their sunny poll prospects and be complacent.

McCain better GOTV.

Rich Lowry wrote on NRO about the headwinds facing John McCain. The way the world seems to be moving it might be time to repeat that phrase familiar to all sailors.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, Cmdr John McCain!

Bradley effect my left testicle...People are not voting for a guy who wants to take their hard earned money...

Implied racism is a ugly method for spin bud. And the Bradley effect is little more than a left wing method of dehumanizing those who oppose them.

Obi Wan is the seer with the inside dope. And I’ve been eagerly awaiting this!

This is inside data from the Obama campaign that has leaked out and it’s showing that the ballgame, well there is most certainly a ballgame!!

Who in the hell is Obi Wan ?

"Obi Wan" is the nickname that Jim Geraghty gave to a high-ranking GOP operative who began to share information with him during the 2004 election. He returned this year in the same role.

Scroll down through the Campaign Spot blog and you'll see what else he has had to say this year. He was quite accurate in his predictions in 2004, and it is clear that he has access to the real dope.

I don't think it's the Bradley effect. I think barry husseins campaign knew they were skewing the polls, but now that the pollsters have their rep on the line and need to be as accurate as possible, they have to do a little more truth telling.

And you know how much the truth scares the liberals.

I think the lying polls is actually hurting Obama when they thought it would help them dampen the Republican vote.

The Dem voters think it is in the bag based on these bogus polls and most of those lazy voters are just going sit back and not vote because they think it is over.

It is too late to get them to the polls unless they vote on Tuesday and most won’t bother.

When they totally change their strategy and start to attack Palin directly then you know there is trouble in Obama land.

This is bloody awesome!

What the Obama campaign is saying is that there’s trouble; they sent a “memo out to boost efforts in Florida but that similar memos were also sent out seeking help in North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio. He said needs were less acute in Pennsylvania”

There’s trouble brewing. This is not what you want days before an election.
And the comment about PA is revealing too.

Clearly, the Obamatrons are unsure of their data and PA is perhaps off the map. Because they can’t rely on the data after Shrillary trounced them there.

In other words, they are in deep doodoo and flying blind.

YAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO
