Right-wing comments seem like devolution
The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat ^ | 28 October 2008 | Kelly Hofecker

Posted on 10/28/2008 1:56:05 PM PDT by Teófilo

Wow. I swear I see letters in this newspaper every day – and some days I don’t even bother – in which almost every bit and piece is some right-wing conservative’s opinion.

Great. It’s nice to know Republicans still hate abortion and cling to the Bible as if they found Moses’ 500-year-old bones in the dust somewhere in the Middle East.

Maybe it’s not the newspaper’s fault.

These pro-life advocates tend to be more vocal than the average intelligent, educated individual – though I am finding that these are a minority in the area, which is “pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family.”

Ha! Don’t step on a blade of grass on your way outside, it’s alive!

Don’t forget to get pregnant on every ovulation cycle, ladies, or you’re wasting egg and sperm cells that will die otherwise.

It’s OK to shoot other living things and let them rot in the woods, though.

And if a woman doesn’t get pregnant and married before she hits menopause, she apparently is going straight to hell because if you’re not bearing children you’re just a waste of space. And “God” disapproves.”

Is that the system?

These letters sicken me. Is this how far we’ve come after millions of years of evolution?

Seems to me like we’ve devolved.

Kelly Hofecker,
Windber, Pennsylvania

As posted in Vivificat!

It’s now my turn to say “wow.” Where does one start with a mindless screed like that?

Ms. Hofecker’s comments are begging to be “deconstructed” and I will do so just to illustrate what we in the pro-life movement and in fact, our entire “pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family” region of Western Pennsylvania are facing this election year.

Ms. Hofecker appears to be a young adult, 17-20, fresh from reading Christopher Hitchens and Betty Friedan. If she’s in college, she is majoring in some liberal art. I say this because she doesn’t strike me as a bachelor’s in science person due to her dismal knowledge of biology, as demonstrated by her implicit comparison of a gestating baby to “a blade of grass.”

She’s not a history, paleontology, or archeology major, otherwise she would’ve known that Moses’ bones, if found, would have been well over 500 years old – Moses, after all, wasn’t born in the AD 1500’s. But perhaps precision isn’t her thing and she was trying to score some rhetorical point. We could overlook that, but the lack of precision also moves me to rule out engineering as her preferred college major.

Logic, rhetoric, and philosophy are not Ms. Hofecker’s field of studies either because of her elementary comparison errors and gross generalizations about her hometown’s IQ level. I bet she has become very popular with her neighbors in small, gregarious Windber, where everyone knows everyone else.

She’s not the daughter of hunters; otherwise she would’ve known that once shot, hunters don’t leave animals to “rot in the woods” but that the animals invariably end up in someone’s oven or casserole. Her ignorance might be due to a estranged relationship with his father, which apparently informs the caricature she makes of male figures and of masculinity throughout her angry letter.

She either didn’t attend Sunday School or CCD, or failed them. Adult, faith-centered education forms a gaping hole in her otherwise sketchy knowledge of the Big Things.

Allowing for the editing that takes places in the newspaper, Ms. Hofecker might be majoring in literature – which is good – or in the softer “social sciences,” perhaps sociology with feminist studies as a minor – hardly a cutting-edge education.

So we’re left with an opinion informed by an ideological college education – if she has one at all – or at least, a two-book reading of some angry feminist and some crackpot atheist.

It seems to me that evolution alone has given us yet another brainless biped judging by her ideas. She seems to fit well along the mythical benighted neighbors she has so self-righteously decried. May be the population of dumb Windberians is a population of only one – Kelly Hofecker. This seems to fit the facts better than Ms. Hofecker’s hypothesis.

Thank God that there is a God who is a Father to her, just as He is for the rest of us. For Him Kelly Hofecker is a beloved daughter with infinite value. Thank God too that most of her neighbors understand that God is infinitely patient with each one of us. If these weren’t the facts, were I in her flip-flops, I would flee from Windber.

“Don’t step on a blade of grass on your way outside, it’s alive! “

Wow, so in order to prove Conservatives are stupid, she proves herself to be stupid not to mention intellectually irrelevant?

I hope that Kelly’s comments were primarily tongue in cheek. Otherwise, she is quite the idiot.

All of these wanna-be socialist fools need to spend about five years in Cuba, Venezuela, China, and Viet Nam EACH — then let us see how they feel about a free American republic.

The word “Hofecker” would make a great noun.

“Ha! Don’t step on a blade of grass on your way outside, it’s alive!”

By the way, it’s comments like this one that more than demonstrate how the left devalues human life.

Thanks, Kelly. Every time some liberal elitist like you takes a stupid cheap shot at people in Pennsylvania it reminds them how much they aren't like you. Or like Obama.

So keep on calling them stupid and uneducated. Is that your way of framing your comments for after the election, when Obama loses in PA?

Wonder what his/her screenname at DU is?

Moses lived in the Middle Ages?

Of course he did. How else did Michelangelo get him to pose for his statue?

...Moses’ 500-year-old bones...

More like 3550 years. One of the signs of devolution is the inability to do math.

This is the end result of not believing that humans are a special creation of God and are just an accident of natural selection.
