I guarantee you, I'll win: McCain
ABCNEWS ^ | 10-26-08 | Landers

US Republican presidential nominee John McCain says he can guarantee a win in next week's election, but says the result will be very close.

Senator McCain, who has been trailing Democratic rival Barack Obama by more than 10 points in some national and state polls, said his campaign was "doing fine" with the polls nine days away.

"Those polls have consistently shown me much farther behind then we actually are," he said. "We're doing fine.

"We've closed in the last week and if we continue this close in the next week you're going to be up very late on election night.

"I guarantee you that two weeks from now you'll see that this has been a very close race and I guarantee you I'm going to win it."

"We are very competitive in those areas [key states] and we're going to have to just get out our vote and work very hard over the next nine days."

Later Senator McCain addressed a rally at the University of North Iowa on a swing through the midwestern state where Senator Obama enjoys a near 12-point lead according to an average on realclearpolitics.com.

As he is expected to do throughout the remainder of the campaign, Senator McCain relentlessly rammed home his contention that Senator Obama is a closet socialist hellbent on raising taxes on ordinary Americans.

The 72-year-old former Navy pilot also struck a defiant stance as he told supporters he relished the election fight.

"I'm not afraid of the fight - I'm ready for it," he stated.

He also repeated his claim - angrily denied by the Obama camp - that the Democratic nominee had already begun drafting his inauguration speech.

"What America needs now is someone who'll finish the race before starting the victory lap....'

The wife and I voted early on saturday. Two votes for McCain/Palin, but this is Texas, already a solid red state.

How does one “guarantee” a result where almost every poll in town shows he’s losing ( and not one (even those whose pollsters are sympathetic to him) shows him winning) ? Does he know something we don’t ?

I'm just praying the media won't call the election by 1:00 pm Eastern standard time and repress the vote across the nation.

Help! Help! We're being repressed by the MSM.

Here is what McCain said: “I guarantee you that two weeks from now, you will see this has been a very close race, and I believe that I’m going to win it”

It is pretentious for anyone to say ahead of a contest that he can “guarantee” a win, whether it is a football game or an election. McCain did NOT “guarantee” a win. He guaranteed it would be “close” and said he “believe[d]” he was going to win.
The press is distorting his words to make him look silly. No surprise there.

What we need right now is a knock-out campaign commercial, one so brilliant and hard-hitting that it tips McCain right over the edge.

I really believe there are a huge number of voters out there who are just looking for a good reason to switch their votes. Hit him on the economy, John! That’s what the people really care about! Paint a stark picture of a green, untested, newbie President suddenly in control of a shaky economy in turmoil, whose only solution is to use America as a guinea pig for his socialist programs.

Come on, McCain - the time is NOW! Give the voters the hard, unfiltered truth!

The Max EV’s to expect from McCain is ~300 if PA goes our way and we hold at least VA and/or CO.

More realistically, I expect if he does pull it off, it will be between 270-285 EV’s.

I’m still asking God to save this country. To raise up Palin as our righteous leader. I believe if we continue to pray the LORD of HOSTS will fight this battle for us and give us the victory! It is in the hands of God to save us. My trust is in Jesus on this one. Jesus is still my Victor in ALL things. The true ALPHA & OMEGA! He is Mighty to save!
Watch and Pray is the battle cry to the saints.

Man you sure have some detailed state by state dream returns.
Mine was just about one state, Maine. In the dream, it’s the first shock that something is not right with election night (for the media.)

Apparently McCain has taken Maine in spite of the media and they are in shock.

The trend is in McCain’s favor...and so are some of the internals.

I’m in no way feeling good yet, but I think a win is possible - and a week ago, I thought it was all but over.

If he wins OH and PA, he won’t lose VA.

The fundamental problem with all the polls is that there are demographic changes in states over time, but states tend to run pretty consistently relative to the national results. Ohio and Missouri tend to be pretty good bellweathers. Republicans tend to run ahead of national numbers in FL, NC, and VA. CO is a changing state demographically as is VA, but the demos haven’t changed enough in 4 years to flip 7% of the electorate.

With McCain and Palin both using the “G” word over the weekend, the campaign is seeing enough with the early voting to know that the Obama turnout models are fluff and that the election is going to be very conventional.

In CO and FL, the early voting is dead even. Generally, if Republicans can tie the early vote, they tend to show up better on election day.

All the numbers that have come out so far, support a McCain victory.

The only thing supporting an Obama victory is media reports and press releases.

And I would ignore Karl Rove as he spends all day traveling on paid speaking engagements, all of his election analysis is based on Real Clear Politics, which is a waste of time.

I repeat, Real Clear Politics is a WASTE OF TIME. Averaging bad polling data just results in an average of bad polling data. Just like Politico speculating about back biting in the McCain camp then forwarding to some blogs and CNN, and then CNN reports it, doesn’t make it so. IT IS ABSOLUTE INCEST IN THE MEDIA.

“over at DUmmyland, they’re going, “Diebold! Diebold!”

Most of those inhabitants think Halliburton makes the voting machines.

Was that a joke? Because if it’s not, either way it’s funny stuff.
Do they really think this? This is as funny as the Bush weather machine that took out New Orleans.
