Why don't I see Obama signs?

Posted on 10/24/2008 7:19:23 PM PDT by RangerM

I do a good bit of traveling in my line of work, and have taken care to notice political signs in peoples' yards.

In the last month, I've been to Iowa, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Missouri. (I live in NC)

Now, I know that this is only my impression, but I can't get over the number of McCain signs I've seen, as opposed to the (lack of) Obama signs. With the exception of a very small part of West Virginia/Iowa, I haven't seen a significant number of Obama signs anywhere. Where are all these supporters?

Oklahoma/Virginia didn't surprise me, but Missouri? I thought I'd read that Obama was ahead in Missouri, and I bet the number of McCain to Obama signs ratio at least 5 to 1. Even in the case of the person supporting the Democrat Gubernatorial candidate, the house didn't have an Obama sign.

Seems strange to me. Any thoughts?

I was working in Charleston last week. That is where I saw the bulk of the O signs. Otherwise, I didn’t see many along I-77.

Uh oh.

You mean Americans aren't supporting the hostile black racists, communists, slumlords, anarchists, terrorists, abortionists, fascists, thugs, liars, cheaters, thieves, criminals and other anti-American monsters in Obama's camp?

Where I am on the western suburbs of Columbus, there are some McCain and few Obama signs.

As compared to '04, the Democrat signage is 1/8th of what it was, and Republican is about half.

Truth be told, it may just not be that effective a means to communicate what needs to be communicated. Just name recognition, show of support.

But in Ohio politics the general rule of thumb is Cincinnati is conservative, Columbus is a toss-up, Cleveland is collectivist. If you're a 'R', it's a matter of how much you lose northern Ohio by.

Population of Cleveland area has been declining, while central and southwest have been growing.

Outlying districts were very red in '04.

I am in central Ohio. In the subdivisions around columbus the signs are split about 50/50, but overall pretty sparse. A little north of Columbus it is predominantly McCain. I see lots of signs for democrat candidates at the local level in my subdivision, without an Obama sign next to it. That is good. But too many houses in reasonably nice developments have Obama signs up in my opinion.

Not many Obama signs around here. McCain signs are a popping up everywhere.

In the last weeks, I have tried to converse with strangers about the election, they don’t want to talk about it AT ALL. So I tried a new introduction strategy, I say first up, “I’m voting for the girl, the wife told me to”, right out of the box. The response was generally “me too”.

They also know about what Joe the Plumber said and many offered up Obama is a Communist.

Simple answer — No one wants to be called a racist. By a pollster or by a stranger.

I’ve only seen one in my subdivision. Very few bumperstickers. I live in a ‘burb of Houston.

I have my McCain/Palin t-shirt. The guy that I got it from said they’ve made about 1500 in the last two weeks. No mention of the other guy.

Agreed, but I would have thought that the ‘excitement’ over Obama would be more conspicuous.

In Michigan (I believe), a pizza place (Obama supporters) are giving away a free pizza for every McCain/Palin sign brought in.

Oddly enough, here in central Massachusetts, McCain/Palin signs outnumber Obama signs 4-5 to 1. Really surprising.

Count the places “without” Obamao signs.
That would give you a more accurate count. LOL

In my immediate neighborhood not that many signs.
O -3 and guessing about a 10- M.

People around my town are pretty ok people, on both sides
and don’t want to agitate unlike me. I have a Mac/Sarah and no one has touched it.

My neighbor down the street who usually litters her front lawn with a sign for every dem candidate on the ballot has exactly one this year... the dem running against Dave Reichert for his congressional seat.

No Obama sign, which I find odd, although her husband finally put a small oval Obama sticker on his Porche.

Not in my area. I see very few Obama signs. In the last Presidential election, the Democrat signs were everywhere, not so now. I see McCain/Palin signs everywhere.

Depends on where you are. Out here in Seattle I see Obama signs all the time. I have yet to see even a single McCain yard sign. Not one.
