Poll Confirms: Murtha in Trouble

And What Democrat Has Done More to Merit Defeat?

Hot off the presses:

Democratic Rep. John Murtha leads retired Army Lt. Col. William Russell by a little more than 4 percentage points, within the Susquehanna Poll's 4.9-point margin of error. The poll of 400 likely voters was conducted for the Tribune-Review on Tuesday, amid uproar over Murtha's statement that some of his constituents are racist...

About 54 percent of voters among those polled say it's time for someone else to represent them in Congress. About 35 percent say Murtha deserves to be re-elected.

"The most important variable here is that a decisive majority say it's time for a new person," said Jim Lee, president of Susquehanna Polling and Research. He attributed some of the unhappiness with Murtha to the congressman's recent comments.

It's tough to know how big a factor that is, though, because little attention had been paid to the race, Lee said. Political analysts didn't expect Murtha to be vulnerable.

Murtha's last few challengers didn't come close to toppling him. He won by more than 20 percentage points in 2006 against Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey. He was unopposed in 2004.

This year, according to the poll, it's different.

"This is clearly a winnable race for Russell," Lee said.

I'm disappointed that the article doesn't provide details on the poll, but a re-elect number of 35 percent means that Murtha right now is a dead man walking. You can be sure that the DCCC is about to rush money to western Pennsylvania to help a man who holds our armed services in contempt, thinks his constituents are racist, and who disgraced his office as far back as his involvement in Abscam. Help Lieutenant Colonel Russell retire Murtha by donating here.

Good grief! An intelligent comment from the Daily Kos! And not a single “f” word in sight! What is this world coming to? LOL

While the Murtha news is promising, I will take some slight issue with “what democrat has done more to merit defeat?”

The entire dim lineup has that honor. How can anyone vote for a dim, especially this year, is beyond me. Ranging from Murtha, to Wexler not living in his district, to Mahony’s honey’s, to cold cash Jefferson still being in office, to Barny Franks and Chris Dodd’s Fannie and Freddie fraud involvement, to Botox Nan’s willingness to watch Americans lose their money to high oil prices, etc. Etc. The list goes on and on. HOW America? How can you keep these people in power???

Thanks ... Personally, I would have hanged him.

Still might get the chance when the country folds up around our ears.

Maybe his handlers could manufacture a sex scandal, the dirtier and depraved the story the better. Then Murtha might be able to pull this one out.

Russell was on Hannity last night. Seems like a great candidate for the GOP. Even if it is a Democrat district, how much more can those people take of Murtha’s buffoonery?

I don’t know. But then, this election may very well go in a direction that the media has not predicted and worked so hard to bring about. The fact still remains that the Congressional approval rating is nearly half that of this “unpopular” President. Surely that would have some bearing on the race. But no one is talking about it. This may well be a “kick the bums out,” anti-incumbent year. Wouldn’t that throw the Libs (Media and Dems alike) into a tizzy? LOL

We can only hope.
This man’s hopes of re-election, should crash and burn for what he has said/done to our troops.

“This could be the sweetest takedown since Tommy Daschle” Yeah! I remember laughing the whole way home that evening just from the radio guys saying he wasn’t “expected to lose this one!” He was just behind in the results at the time & the t.v. guys announced the winner later that night.(laughed again) Loved it!!!

Just speculating. The reporting on this election has been nothing short of pure, unadulterated propaganda. I’m merely pointing out the obvious that the news has intentionally ignored all negative info about Obama and the Dems so it is very likely that they have missed a significant part of this election year’s story. How that actually pans out, we’ll see. But, right now, there’s no reason to be depressed. We can win.

Perhaps Murtha has finally, finally, finally jumped the shark, and embarrassed the folks in his district to the point that they will finally boot his worthless arse. Sadly I’ll remain cautiously optimistic on this... though his racist and redneck comments may finally have been enough for his constituence to send him packing, lord knows nothing else has been.

It’s not Murtha’s fault. All of those racist rednecks in his district are just too stupid to know what a great Congressman he is.

When even Mort Kondrake says you should retire, it’s all over.
