The "socialist" label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.
J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality.
Those freedom fighters included the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who led the Civil Rights Movement; W.E.B. Du Bois, who in 1909 helped found the NAACP which is still the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization; Paul Robeson, a famous singer, actor and political activist who in the 1930s became involved in national and international movements for better labor relations, peace and racial justice; and A. Philip Randolph, who founded and was the longtime head of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and a leading advocate for civil rights for African Americans.
McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for black. It set whites apart from those deemed unAmerican and those who could not be trusted during the communism scare.

Du Bois was a communist.
Yes, I can't recall how many times I've seen pictures on old newsreels of socialist Adolf Hitler and said to myself, "Now there's a black man....he sure has those Aryans fooled!"
“...J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality....”
That’s because J. Edgar Hoover was hunting down Fifth Column COMMUNIST enemies right here at home who had penetrated the labor unions, Hollywood, and the civil rights movement.
Read “Masters of Deceit” by J. Edgar Hoover - you can still get it on Amazon - Youwant to know what happened to our country, you’ll find it there in this book.
Written in 1957, Hoover talks about how the Communists infiltrated and took control of the civil rights movement in a lot of places, using the plight of black Americans to advance SOCIALISM (ooops...code word) I meant COMMUNISM.
He detailed their underground and above ground operations, their “democratic” and “peace” fronts, money-gathering schemes, etc...everything happening NOW.
Remember a few years back the libs tried to do a smear job on Hoover, saying he was a pervert and wore dresses, and had a boyfriend??? (Well, gee, now we have Lollypop Bawney Fwank!)
Ever wonder why? Same reason they smeared Joe McCarthy. He was hunting them down, and disrupting thier little revolution.
Smear and ridicule is a tactic the socialists (oops...sorry..code again) I mean COMMUNISTS have always used.
That’s right out of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”.
Folks, Read both books so you know the enemy and wont be surprised.
This is a war. We better get used to it and wake up FAST.
I actually knew some of the Black Panthers in the Bay area during the early 70s. They weren’t just socialists, they were Maoist Marxists. Much of what Obama is regurgitating is straight out of that play book.
Obviously they are none the worse for wear, being raised in a socialist country!
Maybe we should try it here. /sarc
Didn’t Francois Mitterand have an afro before he went bald?
:>)
“Communitarian” was introduced by the Billy CLinton campaign as a euphemism for “collectivism”, another word for socialism.
For clarity, all the following terms map to COMMUNIST.
leftist
liberal
progressive
collectivist
socialist
This is the first time I have ever heard the word socialist equated with “black>”
What gives?
Interesting. Now explain to me Chris Matthews’ use ofthe term “tribal”. He keeps on telling Pat Buchanan that Pat is “tribal”. Is that newspeak for “racist”?
Good point! Not to mention all the Hispanic socialists like Fidel and Chavez, etc.
I don’t watch TV, so I don’t ever watch Chris Matthews. I only know about him from what I read and from what I hear on the radio.
Given that Matthews is a communist, your guess is a good one, that his use of “tribal” probably means “racist”.
Oh, the old “ If you don’t vote for the black socialist-communist you’re racist” card being played trick. Too bad Barry, don’t care what color you happen to be, A socialist is a socialist. Take a little advise from a preacher who said wisely “Don’t judge a man by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character”.
I persistantly read those ladies’ names as Lungquest.
Over and over - Lungquest - I do not know why.
Unfortunately, these guys believe this crap. (It's much more convenient than examining ideology.)
Can one say another ignorant liberal, holding a position beyond his ability, and unable to call a spade a spade.
The fallacy of selective observation focuses selectively on evidence that supports a contention and ignores that that which refutes a contention.
The author named a hand full of names of black socialists on Hoover's apparent list, but ignores the caucasians most certainly on such a list (I would wager about quarter or more of Hollywood, or thereabouts.)
Okay, it's deceptive.
But it's also laughably clumsy and juvenile. And when such desperately sophomoric writing and foolish logic find themselves in an editorial, we have printed-letter proof that the once-great profession of journalism is now little more than play-time with a keyboard.
I guess it takes a liberal to know about the roots and history of racism in America... and then try and spin it.
See the tagline.
