As I said, if more conservatives had turned out, Harper would have his majority. The moral of Canada Election 2008 is: EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS! Literally!

I take it that bribing, I mean making arrangements with members of other parties to get them to join the PCP would not be very likely.

You know just because your candidate is a long shot is never a reason to stay home. Especially if you’re a Conservative.

Leave the staying at home business to the Dems/Libs

The polling underestimated the strength of the conservative party, but not by too much. They have overestimated the so-called ‘surge’ of liberal party. I didn’t buy the so-called liberal ‘surge’ at all.

Ekos was the only pollster that got right, albeit off by one percentage point. All the others were off by 4% in their estimate of the actual Conservative vote. The Ekos projection was 38%, most Canadian pollsters had it at 33%. The actual figure was 37%. Almost but not quite in majority party territory.

I'm thinking pollsters may overestimate Obama's strength. There's a tendency to dismiss conservative voting turnout. So that's a warning bell for American MSM pollsters.

I don’t know anything about this Jack Layton or the NDP but he sounds like like our most liberal of liberals here in the US Democrat party.

Whether its Obama, Murtha, Kennedy, Reid, Kerry, etc.

Just a reminder about the new campaign finance law- even though I hate the idea of subsidies for political parties, the upside is that even if your local candidate doesn’t have a snowball’s chance, your vote is worth money to the party. The sweetest aspect of it is that it was a law brought in by the Libs while they were in power, and now it’s biting them in the @$$!

I disagree. Quebec is a hopeless communist province. Harper bashed the elitist attitude of many liberals, and that obviously upset the voters in Quebec. Harper couldn’t win the majority without Quebec.

I don’t want Harper to pander to those hopeless communists in Quebec, and would rather take a minority conservative party with strength in other regions!

So this means Canada now has public financing of campaigns?

Nova Scotia (my ancestral homeland) is the same way. It’s tragic what government handouts have done to good people.

The Saint Anne's Church supper! Woah! Those were the days. And you had homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert.

I waddled away from those tables a few times ! LOL.

Looks like a conservative mere minority on this election. How I wish Harper could have made it 150 plus, but he's good to go.I doubt Harper will have any problems bringing major legislative initiatives with only 10 votes to rustle up.

He is a consumate deal maker in most cases.

I guess its time to turn in. Maybe a fresh water export company sending H2O to Georgia? LOL.

Nice hanging with all you guys.

I think you’re bang on. Tonight I voted out of fear of a Prime Minister Dion (because polls were saying it was a possibility) and looks like there were many, many like me across Canada doing the same. I think when push comes to shove, fear that Obama could win will also drive conservatives to the polls to vote McCain.

Especially because the Liberal Party is broke. The most they can afford to do in a confidence vote is abstain because they don’t have the funds for another election.

The party needed to do a better job in rural Quebec and the 905 region. But I can't quibble with the final results. Like I said, a mere 1-2% shift in the popular vote would have given the Tories the majority. But they ran a good campaign and acquitted themselves well.

Don’t know about this election, but over the past 15 years or so they’ve been very accurate.

That and overcoming the expected fraudulent vote here...

Probably need 1.2 GOP votes to counteract the fraudulent Dem votes in November.

Antigonish is one of the finest places on this earth.

Well, maybe harder economic times will reduce government largess, and conservative ways will return.

Nova Scotia people are the best.My sister is one! LOL.
