Palin defends firing of Alaska official
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW ^ | Saturday, October 11, 2008 | Mike Wereschagin & Salena Zito

Posted on 10/11/2008 2:14:29 PM PDT by Salena Zito

In Pittsburgh for a fundraiser Friday night, Sarah Palin defended her firing of an Alaska official shortly before a report was released alleging her action was an abuse of power and a violation of state ethics law.

The Republican vice presidential candidate spoke to the Tribune-Review after the fundraiser, but before the Alaska Legislature released an investigator's report into whether the governor acted improperly in the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan. Critics said Palin fired Monegan because Monegan would not fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law Michael Wooten, a state trooper.

The only mistake she made is when she didn’t fire Wooten herself. That maggot is still an Alaskan State Trooper in Wasilla.

If I read the report correctly, they condemn Gov. Palin for failing to violate the right of a citizen, Todd Palin, in his attempt to redress the government for irresponsible retention of a child abuser. They could find nothing wrong with her firing of the department head. In addition, although they condemn her for failing upholding the First Amendment, they can find no grounds on which to take further action except to condemn her for the sake of spin. How progressive.

She needs to barge forward on this, take the offense
Challenge the questioners to ask her questions and refer them to the conclusions by page and paragraph of the reports- which exonerates her, or accuses her of exercising her lawful authority

She needs to go on every MSM outlet and take the offense on this issue until the MSM gets sick of havin their noses stuck in it

Why do all the news reports continually say that she “fired” the state official? I thought she offered to transfer him to another job in the government — then he quit. How is that considered “firing”?

Mary Oppel, who attended the fundraiser, disagreed. She wants McCain to step up his attacks on Obama, especially his associations with former Weather Underground leader William Ayers and his plans to expand government's role in some parts of society.

"I would like to see McCain get more angry. I think he should point out the socialistic aspect of Obama," said Oppel of Upper St. Clair, who said she was in her 60s. Oppel was disappointed in McCain for not attacking Obama more during their debate Tuesday night, and hopes he'll step it up in the final debate Wednesday. "I think this last debate is very important."

The McCainiacs just don't get it. In this time of war and economic meltdown resulting from faile Bush policies it is not acceptable for wealthy R donors like Ms. Oppel to personally attack their political opponents. R fatcats should not present such outrageous inflammatory remarks for public consumption while the war is still raging in Iraq.

Why is Wooten still a state trooper? The people of Alaska need to stage protests. Turn this issue around toward the real problem.

Transferring is firing, only if you want to make it a political issue and seek compensation for not working through the state employee’s committee.

What are you talking about? What failed Bush policies? What about the attacks on Sarah Palin, especially Obama backers personally attempting to affect the election outcome with bogus witchhunts like troopergate? Outrageous inflammatory remarks while the war is raging in Iraq??? What do you call the attacks from Pelosi, Murtha, Reid, McKinney and Obama himself, just to name a few, the entire length of the war? Not only did Obama vote outright against funding our troops, the dems and Obama's supporters such as Code Pink have aided and abetted the enemy. WHY DID AYERS HAVE SUCH A VESTED INTEREST IN OBAMA?

MurryMom is one of FR's "Pet Liberals."

Never forget, the Lib SOP is to always start with a false premise. Notice the poster seems to have conveniently forgotten that Pres Bush disagreed with Bawny Fwanks, 9% Nancy and other democrat legislators when they pushed the FAILED policies that created this economic mess.

If this were a Democrat VP with a state trooper problem, the state trooper would have Arkancided a long time ago.

I figured as much. The only “failed Bush policy” that caused this mess is there was no regulation of Barney & Co.’s deregulated FM/FM connections. Republicans always got to babysit them.

The disgraceful media is all over Palin for the most petty things while it ignores a terrorist sympathizer who might be a traitor. The democrats and the media will go down in history as the filthy socialists who helped elect a traitor. The liberal pigs are either the dumbest people in the world or they are destroying this country on purpose.

. . . while the war is still raging in Iraq.

Psst, MurryMom! The war isn't raging in Iraq anymore. To all intents and purposes it's over. We won. Al-Qaeda even admits it.

Not true. Her firing was legal and within her power. It was her "urging" that the trooper(who threatened to kill her father) be fired that was found to be a violation as it was interpreted to be for "personal gain".
