McCain Supporter Had Own Ties to Radical Protesters (Defends Prolife Priest???)
WSJ ^ | 100808 | MARY JACOBY

The McCain campaign, in a continuing effort to link Barack Obama to domestic terrorism, released a statement Wednesday from a New York supporter, recounting how his family home was firebombed by the radical 1960s group founded by Obama supporter William Ayers.

But the McCain supporter, John M. Murtagh, has his own ties to radical protesters: He served as a lawyer for a Catholic priest who led protests at an abortion clinic that turned violent.

Mr. Murtagh embarked on a media campaign in the spring to publicize the 1970 firebombing of his family home by the Weather Underground, the group that Mr. Ayers helped to found. His account of that incident, posted on the Web, has been linked to by right-leaning bloggers. Mr. Murtagh, a lawyer and a member of the Yonkers, N.Y., city council, gave a television interview last May to Fox News's Greta Van Susteren, and recently appeared on the Fox News show hosted by Sean Hannity. Mr. Murtagh said he was nine years old at the time his family was targeted because his father, a judge, had presided over a trial of members of the radical Black Panther party.

On Wednesday, the McCain campaign amplified those efforts by issuing a statement from Mr. Murtagh. "Barack Obama may have been a child when William Ayers was plotting attacks against U.S. targets -- but I was one of those targets," the statement read. "Barack Obama's friend tried to kill my family."

Mr. Ayers, now an education professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago, was an early supporter of Sen. Obama. Charges against him were dismissed in the 1980s after procedural errors by federal investigators came to light.

Not in a million years would I call Roland Martin a
“serious journalist”. He is a biased hack—a foaming-at-the-mouth Obamanista. He is a Steppin’ Fetchit water carrier for The One, and he would not be out of place in a 19th century minstrel show.

And here's the scoop on the priest: "Rev. Murphy had been acquitted of criminal trespassing charges twice in 1998 relating to his protesting at the clinic. In both cases, the judge ruled that Rev. Murphy hadn't been aware he'd been on private property and that his free-speech rights were protected.'

So he's lawless! Lawless! No better than the leader of a gang that bombs the Pentagon and shoots police officers!

As for the more serious stuff, e.g. the assaults alleged in the article: unless someone was arrested, tried, and convicted for it, I'll state flat out that it's a lie.

I once conducted a vigil in front of an abortion site in Oakland, CA --- solo --- kneeling ---praying --- on a public sidewalk --- and the police were called at least two dozen times in the 10 days that I was there. They'd pull up in their cruiser and wave; I'd look up and wave; and that would be it.

God only knows what the clinic staffers told them I was doing. Terrorizing people with my rosary, I suppose.

I wonder why the WSJ didn’t mention that John Murtagh has also recently represented (or is currently representing) a member of the Black Panthers? Now there’s a “tie” to a radical protester. /sarc

Yeah, I also heard McCain had an association with communists in Vietnam while living in Hanoi briefly.

Just wrote Ms. Mary the following:

Dear Ms. Jacoby:

I'm a McCain supporter and once worked in close proximity to murderers like Winston Moseley, Ronald DeFeo, and Howard Buddy Jacobson. Sorry, no links to protesters though. What a shame. By the way, were you able to connect Mr. Murtagh to Kevin Bacon at all? Thanks for the useless article.
