One illegal alien was arrested this year in Tucson after allegedly using a stolen social security number to buy two homes and rack up over $780,000 in bad debt.
Some five million fraudulent home mortgages are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
It's not known how many of those have contributed to the subprime housing mortgage meltdown, but it has affected every state, including Arizona.
The problem began years ago when banks were forced to give mortgages without confirming social security numbers or borrower identification. As a result, illegal immigrants were able to obtain home mortgages which they could not afford.

The government has done just as good of job securing our borders and sovereignty as they have the economy.
Not all “illegals” are from Mexico.
Factor in South America,Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa,Australia, etc.
Add in the Island nations, all of them.
Can you even open your eyes to the scope of the problem?
Or do you really buy into the “hype” that all of us who have been screaming for years against illegal immigrants are racists who hate (pick your color and religion/insert here)?
It's has all but compromised and undermined our entire system.
Few listened, and a more than a few were making greedy illegal profits off this madness.
Profits regardless of consequences.
Evidence? I posted a link above from an anti-immigration group claiming 11.3M as their best guess.
What's your evidence?
Please take a look at the link on post 98.
Most of the evidence I’ve seen for tremendously higher numbers are assertions, not evidence.
I’m perfectly willing to be convinced that the official numbers are 1/4th to 1/2 of the actual figures. But I’m from MO.
Your believe, or anyone else’s, no matter how fervent, is not evidence. It is only an opinion.
From http://www.cis.org/immigrants_profile_2007
That's 69% from Mexico and Central America. Toss in South America and we're looking at 77% Hispanic illegals. That's a pretty significant number. Assuming it's correct, less than 25% are from elsewhere.
Yikes!
Open my eyes.
Show me some evidence.

Well, wher’d the money go? I’m guessing to real estate agents and builders and their employees. Basically the IA only got debt. Since he is evicted he really suffered no loss. Money went from the hands of one company to another, and he got to live in a nice house for a while.
In 2005, Bear Stearns analysts determined that the surveys conducted by the Census Bureau undercounted the number of illegal immigrants by far more than 10%. Through discussions with illegal immigrants, Bear Stearns found that immigrants avoid responding to Census questionnaires and work very hard to conceal their identities.
As an alternative to the residual method, Bear Stearns used micro-economic indicators to project an alternative estimate. They examined trends in school enrollment, foreign remittances and housing permits in states with high populations of undocumented immigrants like Texas, California, and New York.
Underpinning Bear Stearns’ estimate of 20 million illegal immigrants is the identification of two patterns: 1) a trend of sharply increased demand for public services in communities that have become gateways for immigration, and 2) increases in foreign remittances (money sent back to an immigrant’s native country), housing permits and border-crossings.
Given the unrecorded nature of the illegal immigration phenomenon, it’s unlikely that a well-founded or rigorous method of measurement will be developed. The reality is, the math is fuzzy and the most definitive conclusion one can make is that the measurements of illegal immigrants in the U.S. are subject to extreme inaccuracies.

for starters
Personally, I don't think a 500 ton hydrolic lift could open your eyes and I suspect you have a conflict of interest buried in your argument.
Here's a photograph of downtown Dallas Texas last year when 500 thousand illegals marched on Dallas, making demands and threats against America.
These are just the ones that showed up, in just one city, in one state. For every one that decided to show up, it's probably a safe bet that 20 didn't.
How do you “prove” numbers of people hiding in your country, having come illegally, and likely roaming when needed?
It would appear that the numbers are far beyond 11 million if an official number of 5 million is given by HUD for records they have in house.
All the hoops I had to jump through in 2003 just to refinance my house and illegals can buy homes?
Man, Atlas needs to shrug real hard.
This is Denver, Colorado of all places in 2006.
These were just the ones that decided to show up to make demands and threats against America.
This is just a small fraction of the marchers in Denver. Some reports had the line going back ((5 miles))beyond the bridge in the photo.
Don't be fooled by the American flag. Leaders and organizers in the movement to destroy American sovereignty were putting out flyer's in many cities, urging the participants to leave their Mexican and other foriegn flags at home.
Lost in your own “statistical proof” are you?
Has it occured to you by now that your “other post” to me proved my original point, and negated your strawman argument?
Just raising the bar on credibility, as you raised(lowered) the bar of statistics by now including "Central America" in what you originally touted as potential numbers of "Mexican" illegal aliens. And just as an aside, Jim doesn't tolerate outed trolls for long on this site. Not that you are officially outed yet...and I may even be wrong in deeming you a troll.
According to Wall Street Journal, only 75.5 million households own homes: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122341352084512611.html
About 50 million of these homes have outstanding mortgages:
http://calculatedrisk.blogspot.com/2007/12/homeowners-with-negative-equity.html
5 million mortgages by illegals means 10% of all mortgaged homes in the US are by illegals? 5 million mortgages also means 5 million people have had their SSNs stolen by an illegal and used to buy a house. I’m pretty sure I’d notice a newly issued mortgage in my credit report.
Doesn’t pass the smell-test ...
Let me be the first to agree with this. I therefore find it interesting that you and others are so definite that the official numbers are understated by up to several hundred percent.
If you agree that the math is so fuzzy, how can you be so positive of any number, high or low?
The problem began years ago when banks were forced to give mortgages without confirming social security numbers or borrower identification. As a result, illegal immigrants were able to obtain home mortgages which they could not afford.
