John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.

Dazzle me with your economics knowledge again....
No real surprise. Things aren’t going well and he has to focus his attention now on the states that he must hold.
I know.......
I hear you. Imagine what it’s like to be in Illinois where there is not one ray of hope! I’m working to elect McCain anyway and will certainly vote.
I’d always heard they were good.
That’ll teach me to listen to anything I hear on the news from the MSM.
For instance on the manufactured financial crisis and the ties with OUSSABAMA,or on the OUSSABAMA’s fundings or...that kind of hot stuff
This election is unique in modern times. Neither the president nor the sitting vice president is running. The closest thing to it in modern times is 1952, Ike vs Adlai Stevenson. But Stevenson was a reluctant nominee, who was drafted by the party bosses despite Kefauver having won 12 out of 15 primaries. Behind on the first ballot, he won the third, the last time any major pick has gone beyond the first ballot.
Ike actually had a fair case that he won the primaries, but it was close between him and Taft. After some bitter backstage wrangling on his behalf, he won on the first ballot.
So, things were a lot different back then. Lots of smoke-filled rooms at work, and much less regard given to the popular will in picking nominees.
Some things don't repeat, but they rhyme. Truman could have run again, but didn't because of his low approval rating, which unfortunately is not as low as GWB's right now.
I suppose they’re solidifying their base there and hoping it spills over into northern Ohio districts and over to Wisconsin (who has a lot of similarities to MI). I personally think Minny is going to be a tough state to pull. McCain needs to wrap up Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Virginia and New Hampshire and then it’s game over even if Obama takes New Mex/Colorado and Penn.
Believe me. I would prefer Wyoming, but the economy is quite small (though the shale find is causing growth). Montana would be nice.
And then there is good old Alaska. They already have a strong secessionist movement in progress. But WAY too cold.
I have been looking into this www.freestateproject.org
New Hampshire
Yeah, well I hear the Michell Obama Whitey speech is coming out soon.
“Why? About a month ago I saw a report where Obama had spent $5 million in Florida while McCain didn’t spend a cent. He didn’t need to. He was leading and continues to lead in the Florida polls. Since then Obama and the media have made a huge push on Florida. So McCain has spent some money recently (I don’t know exact figures). So? Sounds like smart use of his money to me.”
Let me get this straight. A state that has always been 50-50 with razorsharp election results, a truly purple state, with a large registered-voter advantage going to the Rats, should be left alone, with not a SINGLE CENT spent, while your opponent spends $5 Million there? In a year where the economy has gone sour in the state and hit here very hard? Is that what you are suggesting to be good strategy and smart use of money? Not a cent?
You may not have seen polling out of our state for a good while, but if you think that McCain continues to have the polling lead in this state at this point, you are mistaken:

Looking at polling don’t you think it is high time to SPEND MONEY in this state instead of letting yourself be outspent $5 Million to “not a cent” and see all polling go the other way as a result?
As I said, I hope McCain pulls out of Michigan only so he starts spending money on the must-wins Florida, Virginia, Ohio, with perhaps an eye on Pennsylvania as a potential if polls tighten up a bit nationally.
Exactly right. I am in Tampa as well. It is all Obama, all the time, on all channels. McCain is rarely seen. I found out (upthread) that while Obama spent $5 Million here McCain spent not a cent.
“This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, neverin nothing, great or small, large or pettynever give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
Bingo! Add Missouri, Colorado and Nevada and McCain wins the election 274-264:
