John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.

RCP’s final numbers in 2004 were Bush 50%, Kerry 48.5%. And of the 85 national polls in RCP’s composite taken during the last two months of the 2004 election, Kerry only led in 7.

Probably a Romney guy from the political class sore about his man losing.
He talks about running a clean campaign; great--he'll go down in history as being a helluva good loser.
Come on, Johnny--this is the only chance you'll ever have at this. Put a little effort into it...
RE” Guys, this is a frightening move, and it makes me wonder just how bad this election could be............”
Two words: Bradley Effect
So chin up!
Maybe McCain is taking the Rudy gameplan....target Florida only. Yipe!
You can do CPR on a corpse thats been dead for a month but the fact remains...it’s still dead. Going thru the motions is a waste of time.
Looks like I can skip the $1000 donation I was about to send them and buy myself something that I’m REALLY going to need in this state.....ammunition.
Yes, at this point McCain needs to hold the red states, not waste precious time and money trying to win over blue states.
Reallocating resources is not pulling out. As others have noted, campaigns do this all the time (and Obama moves out of certain states are of course not mentioned)
Announcing it right before the evening news cycle on the day of the most anticipated debate of the election should be a clue that this was a planted story from the get-go.
Not trying to shoot the messenger, just a little surprised that so many take any negative rumour about McCain and run with it as Gospel.
I grew up there. I live in CA now.
It needs to be a state with a strong economy and enough people to establish a strong military.
you know I’m in North FL and I do not know one person who is voting for obama I do not know one person who has been polled either .
course I have a mobile phone but many around here have land line and they have not ever been polled so I am curious as to where in Florida they are polling.
for instance if they polled in palm beach then it would go for obama but up here it would go for McCain AND PALIN
Not the polls in the last week of the election, in fact several networks were told privately that Kerry was a lock to win and they made preperations to report the fact.
God Help Us All.
A perfect fit.
Quick additional point: the media is crowing about Obama’s ground game. The GOP got this ground game thing down in 2002. Even in 2006, they did an incredible job dragging grumpy, dispirited GOP voters to the polls to vote. Instead of losing a bunch of House races in blowouts, most of the defeats were by surprisingly close margins. And now we have a Congress with an even lower approval rating than the last one, only I don’t think many Americans have yet figured out that Democrats now run the place.
Can you imagine how his numbers would have risen if last night he had marched up to the microphone and stated flatly that, “NO,I'm Not voting for this lousy bill, wouldn't have voted for it as it was presented in the House, and I sure won't vote for it with all the “sweet stuff” the Senate has tacked onto it.” How this man who evidently “pretended” outrage at the habit of Congress adding “earmarks” benefiting their pet contributors, could possibly vote yea on this bill that stinks to high heaven is beyond me.
Seriously, I had no intention of voting for this man ever, but the powers that be behind the Republican Committee saw fit to wind up with him as their nominee...since I sure would never vote for the smarmy Marxist loving “Osama”Obama and when McCain put Sarah Palin on the ticket, that made it easier for me to hold my nose and back him.....but I will say, if it were not for Sarah, I'd never vote for the man....and I think the McCain “handlers” have done her no favors in how they've “managed” her TV appearances and have not come to her defence, by pointing out some very obvious negatives in Obama and Biden...there's all kinds of fodder to be found on those two...and the MSM, for that matter.
I wish Sarah well, and if McCain/Palin doesn't win this Nov. I so hope she goes back to her beloved Alaska, stays as refreshing as she is, and comes back in 4 years to run for President.
