I linked though Drudge, seems to me it was sometime in 1999-or early 2000.
Lurked every week or so, and finally signed up after 9/11.

Thanks for todays thread.
After watching virtually all of the Senate Special Whitewater Committee hearings in 1995 (?) I did a search on the internet and found a discussion group JimRob and others were on. I lurked there for quite awhile. A year or so later, wanting to catch up on the discussion, I searched again and learned JimRob had founded FR and was continuing his WhiteWater discussion here. I lurked for quite awhile finally registered in late 1997(?) as The Mom. For whatever reason this first registration didn’t take and I went back into lurk mode. In early 1999 I registered as amom (since The Mom was taken - by me - earlier, LOL) I have called FR home since.
Tonk’s story of how he arrived from his FR homepage.
First introduced to Free Republic Thanksgiving weekend 1998
by a very dear friend of mine.
She finally got me to quit being a lurker and finally register on 06/20/01.

HiJinx introduced me Are you sure it wasn't the other way around? I was thinking I heard about it from you during the 2000 election fiasco!
Then again, maybe it was azsportsterman who turned us on to FR!

I often amaze relatives and friends when I begin discussing subjects or events two to three days before they hit the MSM. I always credit FR for the “advance notice.”

Hugs Sarge. Thanks for all your hard work during our recent difficulties.
I did hear about some malcontents the Sunday night of the Big Blow.
Couple of losers intended to do a smash and grab at a liquor store. They got a couple of cartons of cigarettes and some booze but in the flight from the scene of the crime they dropped a baggie of several hundred dollars of speed.
