Reid changes his tune on McCain involvement - and for good reason
Hot Air ^

As Allahpundit already noted in an update to his excellent post on John McCain’s suspension of his campaign, Harry Reid went out of his way to tell him, “don’t bother”. However, as John McCormack notes at the Weekly Standard, that’s just a day after Reid’s insistence that McCain return to support the Bush administration’s bailout plan. How soon they forget:

But yesterday, Reid demanded that the White House made sure the legislation had John McCain’s backing, and Reid floated this bogus piece of news clearly intended to force McCain’s hand: “I got some good news in the last hour or so … it appears that Sen. McCain is going to come out for this.” McCain flatly denied that he had endorsed the plan.

So Harry Reid says that it’s essential that John McCain backs legislation designed to avert the greatest economic meltdown since the Great Depression. And when McCain says the highly problematic legislation, in its current form, is not good enough, Reid tells McCain to stay away from Capitol Hill. Who’s playing politics with economic crisis?

UPDATE: McCain senior adviser Mark Salter emails:

"Yesterday, Harry Reid said that consensus couldn't be achieved without John McCain's leadership. John stepped up and is providing that leadership. Now Senator Reid seems to have changed his mind for reasons we'll let him explain. But what he should understand is that this isn't about Harry Reid or John McCain or Barack Obama. It's about the American people and, in the words of Warren Buffet, the financial Pearl Harbor they're facing. John's committed to doing his part to help avert that calamity. We hope Senator Reid is too."

The Democrats want to have the government take over the financial markets. Republicans are opposed. Where is the common ground?

There would be NO reason to work on a bill if the Democrats hadn’t caused this mess.

Demand REPARATIONS from Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer and the rest of the Democrats who decided to give cheap mortgages to people who couldn’t afford them.

We should not have to pay for THEIR decision to block reforms of Fannie Mae (which Bush has been asking for since 2001).

This is off topic, but yesterday I heard an Obama ad that complained the Iraqi government wanted to build a giant Ferris wheel in downtown Baghdad. The essence of the ad was we are spending billions to protect a country so they can build entertainment for their citizens.

The problem with this is only a few months ago Obama claimed the surge would never work. Now he is implying that it not only worked, it worked too well.

Reid is a worthless fool. IF Obama gets in the white house , we would have Reid and Pelosi at his table.

People don’t even begin to know what the future holds if they let that happen.
