What not just trow in the towel now and forget about the election.

Long term, not a bad idea.

Whichever party happens to be left holding the bag when he house of cards collapses will get the blame.

Yes, when Obama takes the stage by himself on Friday night! HAHAHA Actually, I expect Obama to follow McCain on this. When Obama finally realizes just how much McCain will benefit from this, he will conform

I am listening to the Jay Severin show on WTKK in Boston. He is discussing it, and mentioned that Obama followed suit.

Jay is having great fun with this, saying Obama is playing the “Me Too!” strategy.

I just cant rally behind this idea. THe libs will exploit this as McCain is running from Obama. Enough undecideds will fall for it with the help of The media and it will stick. I hope Im wrong but this will only help the Dems.

No ads, no fundraisers, no speeches and no Palin. Suspended means suspended

I think a lot of people are forgetting this is a REAL crisis. This isn’t just a crying wolf moment in time. We were THIS CLOSE to a meltdown not seen since 1929..and it isn’t over yet.

I can hate the bailout, you can hate the bailout, but this is like an episode of House where the patient is so screwed up, you may have to kill him or almost kill him 3 times to save him.

There are no good choices left.

As long as Darks is awake (or asleep) there is no strangeness cap...

Hey andy. Check out the Severin show today on WTKK Boston. Jay is having a fantastical time with this. Obamas response is on now.

The idea is that this is supposed to be over by Friday, and McCain is throwing down the gauntlet to make it so.

Besides, unofficial ads will continue to run. And McCain will be getting earned media in Washington.

Although my initial reaction also was consternation, it didn’t take long to realize that suspension of the campaign is the right thing to do (after all, he is still a powerful U.S. Senator with job to do).

Further, think about it: John McCain knows he has at least a 50% chance of becoming President in a few months-—and a bunch of yahoos are up in Washington about to lay an egg for his administration.

There was no way in Hell’s Bells that John McCain was going to be on the rubber chicken circuit while the Rats in Washington are possibly taking our country down the drain and setting a trap for him as well.

I totally agree - John McCain is serious about this.

He always says country first; now he is proving it.

my first impression as well

Good analogy. I'll be sure to pass that one to my wife who's a big House (TV show) fan. One of the few shows she will actually watch.

Will Obama admit to his culpability in this financial crisis? He received more money from Fannie May & Freddie Mac than anyone except Chriss Dodd.

First ad out when he returns to the campaign:

When this country faced its greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression, John McCain went to work, helping to fix the problem. Barack Obama continued playing partisan politics and trying to spread blame everywhere except where it belonged - with his friends at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Barack Obama put his ambitions first, John McCain put his country first.

I’m John McCain, and I approved this country.

I am amazed at how many political tin ears there are on this site.

What is the overarching theme of this election cycle?

Simply put its disgust at business as usual by the electorate. One side has put up a schlub who’s going to do nothing but if elected, pretending he wont, and another who’s defied convention and expediency his entire career, but faces blowback because he’s from the party that’s had the executive branch for the last 8 years.

Trying to compare this election to 1996 in any way shape or form is ludicrous. This is not an incumbent race, and its not a 3 way race.. and just for the record, Bill Clinton owes both his terms to Ross Perot, he never topped 50% of the vote.

This is just one more time McCain is doing the unconventional and unexpected, and put deeds behind rhetoric. If Fauxbama stays on the campaign trail while McCain is in DC working on this, Fauxbama loses, period. He and his surrogates going to daily have to try to defend to middle america why he’s not in DC. After all this is the guy who’s claimed (without ever actually doing it) that he can bring people together.
