John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
By the way I live on a military base, my neighbors are active duty Officers which makes my head spin even faster on how they can consider Obama over McCain (Of course several of them are African-American but I am trying to sway them).
The debates are still on.
They’re just moving to the senate floor.
Whatever McCain’s reasons for doing this, whatever crackpot theories at DU/KOS, regardless of what the MSM says ....
McCain is doing the RIGHT THING.
I along with many here, do not always agree with McCain. But he is a man who stands up for what he really believes in. I have got to respect him for that.
I am not for bailouts, but we have a very serious economic issue facing us. We must come up with something to smooth the marker jitters out there.
Hannity just reported that the McCain campaign responded to Obama’s claim that “they called first” this morning....McCain’s camp said that Obama did call to try to reach McCain but McCain was in meetings and was never contacted. OOPS.
The reactionary Obama campaign is starting to look like they are flailing in response to McCain’s leadership.
I thought so, but some guy quoted Rush.
Ewwwww...it’s on.
Making decisions based on intrade trends is worse than making decisions based on polls.
A leader leads.
Joe’s on Hannity now.
Yes childish to do your job in a crisis. Childish to be there to help Congress. Sad you and so may here think that. McCain made efforts as far back as 2005 do you remember that.
I wonder if some posting negative doom and gloom here are doing it from belief or does the DNC pay trolls.
He's posting videos on that old 1929 website - "youvacuumtube.com"
Dems will use this against McCain. This mess has been years coming and there is NO HURRY to sign on the dotted line.
Great! Love it, and so will the readers.
It matters not what McCain does.
The only thing the MSM has no control over is in the first 15 minutes of a bombing or a hurricane.
They control EVERYTHING from then on.
The MSM must be destroyed.
I think he just cut Obama off at the pass.
Just look at Obama trying to make a statement - head down, reading it out...the urms and rrsss are starting. The man is an absolute joke.
It should never have been called a “Bailout” in the first place. Who would it bailout ? Nobody.
Not the banks that are going to be able to sell their mortgages to the plan at less than 50 cents on the dollar.
Not the CEOs, who will be required to waive compensation to participate in the plan.
Not the shareholders of the banks, who will see their share price fall as the banks have to take actual losses instead of holding mortgage assets on their books at a fictitiously high valuation.
It should be called a “Fincancial System Stability Plan”. It won’t cost $700B. It is really using $700B to purchase assets which will later be resold for more than $700B — making the taxpayer money rather than costing them anything. It is the banks that lose, not the taxpayer.
Obama live on Foxnews taking credit.
Blah blah blah....he just goes on and on...”I initiated the call”.....
B Hussein is basically saying McCain stole HIS idea!
- BHO cant suspend because he has to panhandle money.
Ding, ding, ding. Give that man a cigar .... Obama’s fixed costs are huge. Every day he’s not campaigning / raising money, he’s dipping into his kitty while McCain has all his chips.
