John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

this is silly, if there is a debate in the Senate on this economic crisis, both obama and mccain should be THERE participating in this....they ARE senators, they can leave a decision on the debate till friday morning........we all might want a break for the debate by then, or they may have solved the financial crisis....or be well on their way.....but why does’t obama want to go back to the senate chambers and work on this?

This move is plain brilliant - and I'm no McCain fan. Rush called him McBrilliant after the Palin pick. Surprise & Delight. He's done it again. Whomever is running his Campaign is rewriting the rules of politics.

Consider, too, that Foreign Relations is considered Juan’s forte.

After an exhausting day working hard for his country, he could show up to the debate and end up wiping the floor with Opossum.

Game, set, POTUS!

Why would McCain avoid a Foreign Policy debate? AND McCain has been begging for town hall debates all year, Obama has been running scared.I'm sure they will reschedule after the vote.

You snivelers have got to be working for Hussein.

Well exactly! McCain isn't afraid of a debate with this empty suit Obama. McCain is a statesman who puts country before party.

Thanks for reminding us of how serious this really is. Nothing has been fixed yet. We just put a temporary bandage on the situation.

I disagree, teddy.

I am one of those independent conservatives that McCain has disappointed a few times too many.

But, this is reassuring to me that McCain actually has a sense of priorities, and helps to solidify my vote for him. I don’t buy Obama’s waffle on this for one minute.

I am reminded of an old hymn....

“Once to every man and nation
Comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood,
For the good or evil side:
Some great cause, God’s new Messiah,
Offering each the bloom or blight,
And the choice goes by forever
‘Twixt that darkness and that light.”

The Obama people are huddled together right now having a koniption fit trying to decide which option to choose. They won't be able to decide, and the media will start pestering them for an answer.

How fast can they throw together a poll in some battleground states?

Have you not seem the media in action?! Yes, I'm serious. Ultimately, this is going to bite us in the butt.

You're giving the American people too little credit. They will respond just as they did when Reagan went over the heads of the Congress and the media and spoke directly to the people - they will rally to him.

“I’m surprised Boortz is saying this is a bad move by McCain, good move by Obama to continue with debate. But then, Boortz doesn’t like government intervention at all really.”

Yeah, and he was looking forward to watching on TV.

Priorities.

In Sarah’s book, there is a story about how she met with the troops leaving for Iraq instead of attend a debate. Her opponents were flummoxed and simply didn’t know what to do.

Putting the good of the people first? Politicians aren’t used to this. Perhaps Sarah rubbed off on him, or this is John being John.

“Still trashing McCain .
Your brilliant sources are dead wrong.”

Lol, I don’t have any sources, just have observed the goings on myself this week. And stop trying to make every impulsive move McCain makes look like some brilliant strategy. Maybe he’s returning to lead the charge to fire Chris Cox.

Wonder what all his Republican colleagues will think about this move? Are they standing on the Capitol steps waiting for him to arrive on his white horse and lead them out of their great confusion?

This is showboating, and was not necessary. The process was moving along.

BS. This is a huge issue in Congress and for this country right now. I don’t think our representatives can just phone it in while continuing to campaign.

Can somebody please point out to me one legislative accomplishment McCain has that us conservatives can point to? immigration?, CFR?, torture?

Regardless of the campaign - keep McCain the hell away from any sort of legislature that deals with the economy.

Because it's not your business what a board decides to pay a CEO. Not your business no matter what. Not even if taxpayers are looted to prop up an industry.

I was going to post a heated reply, but I *think* that's sarcasm, right? :)

I'd like to know when every member of the board at AIG will get thrown onto the street. That's the least we deserve for a $700 billion investment.
