John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
It’s either:
1. He wants to get a leg up obama-take the first initiative and get brownie points
2. Something is about to hit the fan regarding Wall Street that we do not know about.
-—McCain may have a better chance of winning if he doesnt campaign——
LOL!
My first thought when I saw this a few minutes ago was that the Obamabots in the MSM will portray this as McCain trying to avoid a confrontation with The One...the moonbat blogs are already saying it. I dunno, I can't tell what McCain's strategy is here. It's hard for me to understand why he couldn't do both - go to DC, spend today and tomorrow working on the economy all the while looking and acting presidential, then hop on a plane Friday and spend a few hours debating Obama? Why the need to cancel the debate?
I just saw his announcement and he looks a heck of a lot more Presidential and wants what is BEST for our country and not leave it to the other 97 BOZO’s in the Senate.
I does NOT look desperate to me.
Doing his job!
Hoorah!
I like this idea. Those two suspend things, while Sarah and Biden do the campaigning. Joe can tell us how President Ulysses S. Grant used to write speeches on his Blackberry during the Civil War.
It’s not desperate. The race is close and this move will not hurt him but has a chance to help him. There’s no downside here.
Yes, leaves Sarah Palin on the campaign trail all by herself.
Big coming out party for Sarah!
WoooooHoooooo
Incredible ain't it?
Yep. Before the day is out, Obama will have issued a statement that he is capable of dealing with two things at once, probably with the not-so-veiled suggestion that McCain can't because he's just too darn old.
I think we've just seen the beginning of the end.
McCain is treating this campaign like it's a war. The Democrats still haven't figured that out.
There's a lot of truth in that statement.
Does Barry even know where the Senate is?
This will be a good opportunity for McCain to make some realignments on the campaign staff.
Carl and Shep are in awe of Mac’s bold move. In a positive way.
I think this is better than campaigning. It sends the message that he KNOWS just how serious this problem really is, and that his first duty, as a U.S. Senator, is to serve the needs of our Country first.
It also takes away the supposed slight edge O’Bama has on him regarding his alleged lackadaisical response.
Always remember, Barry, put brain in gear before engaging mouth.
Who’s your daddy now, Barry? MAC DADDY, that’s who!
"Senator Barack Obama scored early and often in what all but the most partisan hacks are saying was a clear win in Friday's _____(leave blank for now)____ debate with the hapless John McCain . . . "
So exactly when did Obama suspend his campaign and return to Washington?
Obama is saying HE made the first move!
