How the Palin email hacker suspect was caught Thomas Lifson September 20, 2008

TGDaily, a tech site, explains how the suspected Palin email hacker, 20-year-old David Kernell, a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and son of Democratic Tennessee state representative Mike Kernell, was caught. He used a proxy server supposed to anonymize his identity, but the owner was quite upset at being used to cover illegal activities, and was also contacted by the FBI. Read the further details here.

It is obvious from posts the hacker made that he was fully conscious of breaking the law.

There is some suggestion that the hacker may have a loophole. Chloe Albanesius of PC Magazine writes:

“Community Service”??? Nah, more like Community Organizing or get-out-the-vote service.

I’m thinking ,maybe, of sending some Hamilton County Tennessee private detectives to check out the closets of the Kernell family to look for any and all skeletons. yep yep 10/4

I’m concerned, since his father has money and connections, the 20 year old will get NO JAIL TIME! In which case we must organize protest marches every day in front of the court house. He MUST NOT be allowed to get NO jail time. It would not be fair. If he gets just probation, he will be laughing every day about it!

Then, the crime itself is not relevant?

Are you kidding. The MSM is only concerned that Palin had a Yahoo acct in ther first place. Insanity, no. Accessories, yes.

What's really funny is that she copied any "state-business" emails sent from her Yahoo account to her State account, where they would be open to public scrutiny. Yet, she is still accused of trying to "hide" her emails.

As if that makes what this little twerp did, right. The press trying to make a hero out of him and blame Sarah for having a Yahoo email at all, is really starting to get on my nerves.

I think this is identical to Watergate—save for the three things I mentioned.

While I totally agree there's an extreme double standard, at least one of those cases was settled somewhat correctly. Jim McDermott, the democrat, ended up stuck with a million dollar settlement to John Boehner over the wiretapped Gingrich strategy session. Of course the useful idiots who did the actual wiretapping went unpunished.

BOEHNER SETTLEMENT

Correction to my previous post: the article I linked says the wiretappers were fined for breaking federal law. It doesn’t say how much.

“What is the difference between this and Watergate?”

It involves a Demoncrat.

And they'll want you to get their violins out because he is a minor.

Yeah, down in Texas.

When will the leftist traitors in this country ever get pay back?

Rumor has it that there are some ‘hot’ cells in hell all prepared and waiting.

If he committed this crime using the University’s network he most certainly would be in violation of their computer use code and could and should be kicked out of the university.

You forgot: steal classified documents from the National Archives, take them out of the building IN YOUR SOCKS, hide them under a construction trailor, return them with pages missing.

If you are a Dem: reasonably small fine and slap on wrist; Republican; even the accusation of impropriety is enought to get you jail time and national ruin ( think Scooter Libby).

Hackers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law...

Of course you are right. But according to some FReepers it was "treason," "traitorous," "He should be hanged," because democrats are "just like the terrorists." These words totally lose their meaning here.
