Not good. Built overseas. Sounds like an in-flight break-up. Glad the pilot got out.

Not good at all. Cessna was trying to keep costs down by having their new entry level plane built in China.

They should change the name to groundcatcher.

The pilot of the test aircraft was able to parachute to safety... Although one hates to hear of any a/c crash, I'm glad the test pilot got out without serious injury.

Pure supposition based upon above report: wing spar failed at bottom of fuel tank (pop); fuel ignited briefly (sparks); wing failed.

Built in China. Sheesh. Can’t even get a good plane anymore.

Since the pilot jumped, I assume he had no control at all. All controls locked...Otherwise, a good test pilot would try a dead-stick landing...But then again, I am not a pilot.

It’s not like this was a prototype with innovative aerodynamics and technology. It’s a damn piston single. Who the heck can screw something that simple up?

Made in China... red flag!
In all fairness though, I did know a test pilot when I was younger. When I first asked him what he did for a living, he said, "I rip the wings off of aircraft". Apparently, the manufacturers really want to know the exact limits of the machine before failure and they pay good money to find out.

I went back to my thread last year when Cessna announced this plane at Oshkosh.
Lookie what I found:

It is the wrong answer to the quest for a less expensive airplane via the LSA route....
The answer is the "Facetmobile", but that is way to deep for most folks to get their hands or head around, read the PAV report on the Facetmobile's site.
Here is the as yet to be built 2 seat version, the FMX-5

If you would like on or off this low volume I see my hands' life story ping list then please email me. When we were twelve years old my friends and I were cutting through the golf course (golf course at lower left, crash area at push pin A) and saw a plane in the distance falling from the sky in a steep spiral. It passed behind some trees. A few minutes later we saw another small plane, assumed it was the same one and that it "must have pulled out." It wasn't until I got home until I realized there were two planes and the first crashed on my street, four houses down from my own. My father, a fire fighter on duty that day, received the 9/11 call and was not given an address, just the street and block.. his own. Da da dahhh! It was a Cessna, the pilot and his sole passenger were killed instantly. (RIP guys.) No one on ground was injured. Moderate property damage to this house and its detached garage. For many years I would use this story to score chicks.

Built overseas. Was the prototype, or was that to just have been the production units? The article says "which *will* be built in China".
