‘Objectivist’ Writer: Trig Palin a Financial Burden Who Should Have Been Aborted
NewsBusters ^ | September 17, 2008 | Rusty Weiss

Posted on 09/18/2008 8:55:35 AM PDT by Zakeet

In stunningly self-centered, cruel fashion, Nicholas Provenzo, writer for the Center for the Advancement of Capitalism suggests that Sarah Palin’s decision to give birth to a child with Down Syndrome, is a financial burden that others are forced to suffer with.

Provenzo, who has written opinion pieces for the Washington Times, Capitalism Magazine, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution, as well as being a guest on Bill Maher’s former show, Politically Incorrect, makes his case for “the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome.”

The full first paragraph of the piece which is circulating amidst the blogosphere reads (emphasis mine):

Like many, I am troubled by the implications of Alaska governor and Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's decision to knowingly give birth to a child disabled with Down syndrome. Given that Palin's decision is being celebrated in some quarters, it is crucial to reaffirm the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome (or by extension, any unborn fetus)—a freedom that anti-abortion advocates seek to deny.

Morally justifiable reasons for killing a baby? There is no justifiable reason for taking any child's life, and to call it a moral obligation to society is undeniably one of the more disgusting things to be written by a human being, about another human being.

In fact, advocating the abortion of a child based on the potential of that child having a disease or imperfection of some kind raises echoes of Nazi Germany’s quest for an Aryan race.

The suggestion that another life should be ended based on the presence of an extra chromosome, and that another healthy individual’s own life is more precious because of that, is over the top narcissism.

Maybe this shouldn’t surprise quite so much. After all, it wasn’t too long ago that sick individuals were offering up baby Trig on ebay. We live in a society where skeptics simply can't admire someone who stands on their principals. They must tear them down by insinuating that such a move is merely a political prop. Or, in this case, they argue that choosing life was actually a selfish move. A stunning argument to say the least.

However, Mr. Provenzo demonstrates his own level of selfishness in his rant. He doesn’t go the typical route of the pro-choice crowd, but reveals some very bizarre reasoning for why it is Palin’s obligation to have killed her baby boy – the care, love and effort required to raise Trig is a cost that others must bear.

A parent has a moral obligation to provide for his or her children until these children are equipped to provide for themselves. Because a person afflicted with Down syndrome is only capable of being marginally productive (if at all) and requires constant care and supervision, unless a parent enjoys the wealth to provide for the lifetime of assistance that their child will require, they are essentially stranding the cost of their child's life upon others.

I think Trig, and everyone who values life as a precious gift, all life, is extremely grateful for the Palin’s decision, no matter the challenges. Trig is a blessing and an inspiration to the conservative pro-life movement, as are Sarah and Todd Palin for making the right choice, the only choice.

And, if Mr. Provenzo needs examples of how someone with Down Syndrome has gone above and beyond the state of being ‘marginally productive,’ he only need look here, here, and of course, here, among countless others. In fact, I am quite certain that our very own readers could cite personal stories of their own.

This is what you get when you uncouple capitalism from Judeo-Christian values. It’s every bit as scary as communism, fascism, or islamism.

“The author’s argument is equally applicable to members of the Welfare Class, but is unlikely to be so applied.”

As well as most members of congress.

Were I not a Christian, but rather worshipped at the feet of these purveyors of death and depravity, I might try building an altar to Molech, to allow these “leaders” to emulated Ahaz, King of Judah.

2 Chron 28:2-3

2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.

3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
KJV)

I'm sure they would pay for the privilege of using it.

Shucks, they might even incorporate it into their church's worship services, replacing the baptismal fonts with gas grills. It could even do double-duty on their special religious holidays, such as Super Bowl Sunday, Roe-v-Wade Memorial Day, Gay Pride Day, Cain's Birthday....

Antoninus, thank you! for making that very important point.

Same article was posted on Lucianne.com, and every one of the people who got on and commented, assumed for some reason that this Provenzo guy was a liberal or a Leftist. In fact he's a Rightist: the founder of the Center for the Advancement of Capitalism, a contributor to Capitalism Magazine, and a self-proclaimed promoter of the Objectivism.

I'm going to contact him at nprovenzo@capitalismcenter.org and let him know what I think of his aggressive and unjust attitudes toward blameless children who have never done him any harm.

Thanks, Mr. Provenzo, for reminding that there are TWO rival materialisms in this world: godless Communism and godless Capitalism.

Mr. Provenzo, I guess you will never receive the hugs and giggles, the warmth and affection of a person like Trig Palin. I guess you will never see the Image and Likeness of God in him; or in yourself.

And that leaves you poor, Mr. Provenzo. That leaves you pitiable. This leaves you grossly disabled in an invisible inward place --- far more disabled than Trig Palin, who would lavish love --- God bless him --- even on your stony little heart.

So what he is saying is that any human being who is a financial burden to society should die. So any fetus of a mother who does not have the financial means to provide for her baby should be aborted.

Don't give them any ideas.

I heard the same kind of stuff about Terri Schiavo from other “turbo-capitalists”,(read: economic but not social Republicans and right wing libertarians). It disgusted me then and disgusts me now.

They think that sick people who cannot pay their own way are a burden on society and should be left to the wolves

Did not the Nazis start with such thought processes to justify their monstrous acts?

Does anyone recall a “Law and Order” episode when a character was described as a “wrongful life” because she was born crippled and that the fictional mother who gave birth was considered a criminal as if she committed a wrongful death?

It seems some pro-abortionists consider Trig Palin a “wrongful life”.

We’re fine - thanks for asking. I hate to even complain since so many lost so much and are still without power/water. It was scary on a scale I hadn’t realized before, but we were together and safe.

I can feel the desparation.

This article, also, shows how we've got 'em on the run:

unfortunately, Capitalism is already being divorced from basic Christian morality. The greed amongst corporate america is going to be the downfall of this country.

luckily, it hasn’t gotten this callous (provenza) yet, but it is on it’s way

No matter. Libertarians promoting baby killing can’t be defended anyways.

I’m glad to hear everyone is safe after the storm. We were expecting some bad weather, but were spared. All we got was a few windy days.

No rain, which we really need here. We are several inches short for this year and haven’t had much over an inch in any of the past few months.

Financial Burden

Same could be said for people with aids. A choice they made and the tax payer picks up the expense with meds, etc.

I decided to check, but often find this the case. Illogical writers like this one, so enamored with abortion because of the “financial burden’ excuse, are usually the biggest open border promoters out there. They don’t mind that we bear the burden of 20 million illegal aliens.

Senate blocks immigration reform

:: Posted by Nicholas Provenzo at 3:17 PM
“The defeat of this bill is a clear victory for xenophobia and protectionism. While the proposed legislation was far from perfect (I maintain that any immigration quota is a violation of the individual rights of existing citizens to do business with whom they choose) the bill was as least an attempt to recognize reality and acknowledge that as long as America is free and prosperous, there will be a powerful incentive for people to abandon their failed regimes in order to live here. Instead of welcoming such people and integrating their talents and wiliness to work into America, the xenophobes and protectionists have successfully kept them as a criminal underclass.”

So we should kill someone because they might be a burden on the state? How about Medicare recipients? SSI recipients? Foster kids? they are all ‘burdens’ on the state, too, even though it may not be their fault (certainly isn’t with foster kids).

Logan’s Run. Carousel was where people who reached the age of 30 were killed, under the guise that they were to be “renewed.”
