Government professor Lisa L. Martin, who served as the Faculty of Arts and Sciences' first diversity dean and chair of the Standing Committee on Women, has left Harvard for the University of Wisconsin at Madison, criticizing Dean of the Faculty Michael D. Smith's commitment to hiring minority and female professors on her way out.
As a leader of female and minority recruitment, Martin compiled and released two reports on hiring. Her first report raised alarm when it found that the female tenure rate in 2005-2006 had fallen to 21 percent - half the rate of the previous year.
Martin started a mentoring program for untenured female professors, where junior professors would be paired with senior faculty from a different department within the same division. The program, she said, enabled junior faculty to discuss sensitive department issues if needed. Fifty untenured faculty members and 25 tenured professors participated, according to Martin.
But now, Martin said in an interview, she is worried that some of the programs she started may not continue.

I thought two wrongs don’t make a right. How can these supposed liberals live with creating their own class system? Have they at long last no shame?
Another reason I won’t be contributing to the UW, my alma mater.
And they call this higher education ...
It is sad that this is even considered newsworthy. This woman has got to be a real ball of fun. Perhaps she will find Madistan even more conducive to her bitterness. I’m sure that Larry Sumners will be glad to write her a letter of recommendation.
Perfect description of all that is wrong with university administators of any gender.
Why?
Salaries, pensions, health benefits for the institutions.
Also, crappola "chairs" and new "departments" that have NOTHING to do with higher education, but are horrific politics and sin at their worst.
But the GOOD new to parents is: "You get to Pay for this!"

When I went to college, I studied Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering.
In truth, diversity is anathema. People tend to gravitate to people they are similar to in beliefs anyway.
To meet new people and ideas at school or the workplace or visiting different lands works, but forcing people to associate with others in their neighborhoods and personal lives gets people to withdraw further from society and makes them distrustful of others.
These leftists are overgrown children. They expect jobs and titles and respect to just fall out of the sky. Like little kids playing at a tea party. There’s not a damn thing stopping minorities and women from applying to professorships, DOING THEIR JOB, performing real scholarly work, and putting in the time to be granted tenure. You gotta personal issue with someone, stand up for yourself. That’s what adults are expected to do.
Would you know who and when Queen Athalia was?
Everyone should.
i'd say Conservatives are about the smallest minority in the faculty there is... but i doubt she wants more of them.
First there's a 500 point drop in the Dow and now this!!!
When will this nightmare end?
I believe one incident involved a black non-student who was using tools to take a lock off of his bike after he lost the key. The police stopped and checked it out. The other incident involved a prof. who resembled a rape suspect they were looking for.
Both incidents are common sense police work.
That being said, if you needed brain surgery would you request the best neurosurgeon or a (insert aggrieved minority group here) neurosurgeon?
