I believe in hard hitting interviews. With that in mind, I decided to watch the Charles Gibson interview of Sarah Palin last night on 20/20.
What I saw was not a hard hitting interview. It was an adversarial attack. Charles Gibson was not acting as an interviewer. He was acting as a prosecutor examining what he thought was a hostile witness.
He was playing gotcha, just as Dennis Prager said he had done. He was a smug supercilious elitist.
If you want an example of hard hitting but above the belt interviewing you can look to Chris Wallace and the late Tim Russert. Gibson is not in their class. In fact, he has no class.
I'm sure he impressed his fellow leftist elitists as well as John Q. and Joan Q. Gullible-Ignoramus. But I hope that plenty of people saw through this travesty.
I should have known better better after listening to Dennis Prager yesterday, but like a glutton for punishment, I decided to give Gibson a chance.
By the way, I turned off the TV before the half-way point of the show. I didn't want to have a stroke.
It was an adversarial attack - just like you said. When I heard the drumbeat questions with "for it then, against it now..." line and then the question "Would you like to revise and extend your remark?" (or something very close to that), I went ballistic!
After this ONE interview, I have seen more specific details of Gov Palin's policy and plans than I have been able to garner from a year-and-a-half of suffering the Obama rise to popularity (and now thankfully, his descent to footnote status).
Thanks for your post.
There, I feel better now.
Cathartic.
Gibson came off as uppity. Gosh, can I say that without being racist? :)
make sure you us safe search
I rarely write emails or letters when I’m upset, but I did to ABC regarding Gibson.
Just compare his “interview” with 0bama to Palin.
And those drones predictably, are all singing the same tune.
I heard NPR regurgitating the exact same talking points as all other MSM outlets this morning.
As a military member, I can say that if I had the same lack of integrity in my job as these partisan-hack journalists have in theirs, I would be rotting in prison.
They fixed my title. That’s OK with me. :)
..just a matter of time
Welcome to Free Republic!
He has to something because he sure isn’t a competent reporter. Probably just another jackass liberal Democrat.
Over the last couple of weeks, it has become apparent to me that the liberal media is also running against Gov. Palin, and Mr. Gibson's interview went a long way to underscoring that point. (I bet he never did and never would take the same tone with Hillary that he did with Gov. Palin.)
So now we have the liberal media and the BarryO campaign running against and beating up a woman. Their fear is palpable. Their desperation is on parade for anyone who wants to see it. And I say let them have at it. The more they attack Gov. Palin, the more solid her support becomes. The more they demean and belittle her, the more her support grows. Their biases are showing, and they are not pretty. The less they do to hide them, the more their support will erode.
If you are of the mind, pray that God would protect and strengthen Gov. Palin, and carry her through this grueling process. And fear not, despite dire warnings to the contrary, Pres Clinton didn't take this country down. Neither will a BarryO presidency, though it would be most grievous to so many of us. Put not your trust in men or the strength of horses.
And lastly, this election cycle, starting from about the Harriet Meiers selection to the Supreme Court, has been very good for this nation for it has drawn many citizens into the business of governing this nation. We have been far more active as ordinary citizens now than we have been in the past. May we never forget this lesson...of the people, for the people, by the people.
Oh yeah.....Charlie is a smug little puke, isn't he? < /verbosity>
Fixed for you. The truth is, that Governor Palin comes off as more honest, and more real than that poseur Gibson, and it shows...
the infowarrior
It looked hostile, like he was trying to trip her up. Only needed the Round Robin of "Guess the Leader of these foreign countries..."
Gibson is a smug elitist?
Huh! Thanks Mr. Obvious...I never made the connection
Just watched CG and SP he repeatedly tried to steer and control her while they were walking at her old High School and each time she deftly pulled away from his near grasp...it was weird...hes weird...came off as a condescending I know more than you jerk....he thought he single-handedly was going to save the Obemenon from ruin - pompous asses! - just like his bosses the 2 Os OBAMA/OPRAH...again the McCain campaign out foxed the Dims, I kept asking myself why ABC and CG? Now I know...the Bullet played ABC/MSM like a fiddle...!
