Governor Declares State Of Emergency In Kentucky
WHAS-11 ^ | 12 SEP 2008

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky's governor has signed an order declaring a state of emergency and invoking the state's anti-price gouging law as Hurricane Ike bears down on the Texas coast.

Gov. Steve Beshear signed the order on Friday, saying gas stations started raising fuel prices overnight before the storm made landfall.

Beshear signed the order at the request of Attorney General Jack Conway, who said in a letter released Friday that invoking the law now will help prevent predatory pricing.

Friends of ours here on the FL gulf coast own a convenience/gas/clothing/bait shop

Today they were quoted $4.80/gall wholesale.

They decided not to buy.

The market at work.

This just illustrates all the more why we CANNOT keep all of our eggs in one basket so to speak. I’m not sure on this, but aren’t our most productive oil drilling areas currently off Florida and in the Gulf of Mexico?

We are already in enough of a bind with foreign oil dependence, but the Democrats are keeping our domestic oil supply in jeopardy by NOT allowing drilling in places like ANWR, and leaving the US in jeopardy of suffering a catastrophic blow to the oil infrastructure should something awful, God Forbid, occur!

It’s borderline treasonous because we’ve been lucky so far, and we are at war, and I’m sure our real enemies would love to kick us while we “down” so to speak...

Just more and more reasons to Drill everywhere you look, and everyday more pop up as well. It makes absolutely no sense NOT to! We have to, as with everything, keep all the options on the table. Support drilling, and support research and development of a wide variety of alternate renewable and/or clean energy solutions. It’s really that simple. That way we will be safe, secure, prosperous, and responsible all at the same time... JMHO of course!

Last week I paid $3.47 in NJ. I heard all of the panicked news reports last night and figured I should fill up this morning. Guess what the price was... $3.41

While I was leaving NY I spot checked prices, half expecting to see $4.50 or so, no most stations were around $3.79 which is about the same as last week. Go Figure.

In Ga. (Henry and Clayton Counties) BJ’s was 3.49, QT was 3.47, this AM. Our local backwoods Chevron, who is always a dime higher than main street, is at 3.63.

Wife is gonna’ call me on her way home from work (Chamblee-Tucker)let’s see what happens.

THat’s a democrat Governor, right? I thought the wholesale price went up, so it seems reasonable for the gas stations to raise prices accordingly.

Also, it seems that will discourage people from running out to get gas when it is scarce, unless they really need it. They can wait a week for the price to come back down.

Oh well. I’m sure the gas stations can afford to sell product at a loss for a couple of weeks, to make the governor look good.

Well, here in North Central Indiana reports that gas is $4.50 in Kokomo and a report on Fort Wayne radio that stations there are “running out of unleaded”.

We've got someone here with wholesale pricing where it is expensive. Look at post #81.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2081086/posts?page=81#81

This is what happens when the supply of ANYTHING is scarce and getting it to you is made difficult.

Imagine government saying you had to sell your guns to people around you, for a fixed price, because you had “extra” as they saw it, and they wanted to assure you sold them at a fair price. Would you be for such a law? I mean, there's a crime wave happening in your town and somethings got to be done, right?

I'll bet when it comes to government doing this to you, with your gun and ammo reserve, you'd think it wasn't right.

Guess what, gas station owners think the same thing.

One of the things I have is a graduate degree in a similar area of study.

So I won’t use that against you, either.

The Houston Chronicle had articles about the refinery shutdowns due to Hurricane Ike. One of the news articles said that spot prices for gasoline jumped $1.50 per gallon overnight Thursday.

The ones in the Lake Charles, Louisiana area will also be shutdown, as Lake Charles is under the Hurricane Warning.

I agree, it should be at or below 2.75. It isn't they say, because they have to plan ahead for things like refineries shutting down, etc, so why do they raise the price of gas, on speculation there will be a shortage. No rig has been damaged thus far. Wait till one is and look at the effect that one rig will have. Refineries closing happens on major holidays too, but the price doesn't go up 1 or 2 dollars! It ridiculous. Why not wait and see IF there is any damage before they jump the gun and up the price?

Somebody posted last night to expect this problem today. They were pretty well bashed and flamed, but they did say to expect $1 to $1.41 rise in prices overnight.
