Why I'm reversing course on John McCain
Vanity | Sept 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 09/08/2008 12:55:29 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Governor Sarah Palin! Or, actually, what she signifies.

We've often stated on FR that if the Republicans would only run true conservatives then we'd win more elections. We'd keep the White House, build conservative majorities in congress, replace liberal activist judges with original intent constitutionalists, and eventually overturn Roe v Wade and begin rolling back some of the damage inflicted upon our beloved republic by the socialists and liberals.

John McCain's bold choice of the unabashed pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-liberty, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative, Sarah Palin, signifies a return to conservatism within the Republican Party.

And the fact that Republicans and conservatives of every stripe, including the Christian right are flocking to her side and that the conservative grassroots has been re-energized literally overnight is proof that when offered the choice of truly conservative candidates, conservatives and Republicans will react accordingly.

Even though I've stated in the past that I would not vote for McCain, I will be supporting this ticket. Governor Palin is a God-fearing, kick butt conservative and I'd much rather have her advising and standing in the wings for the presidency than Joe Biden. I'll definitely pull the lever for her. And I'll do all I possibly can to keep the America-hating Marxist Barack Hussein Obama out of the White House.

Do it for Life. Do it for Liberty. Do it for our troops. Do it for America!

Jim, your sentiments mirror my position word for word.

Sara Palin IS the reason I support the GOP again. She will shake up Washington and those career Liberal/RINO’s by the ankles, like she did Stevens and Murkowski. She is one of the rarest of honest reformers who will bring back the Reagan doctrine to this party.

** PALIN / STEELE 2012 **

- - - - - -

Maybe I’m missing something here but ...

Wouldn’t that assume that Palin would try to
take the nomination from the President that
she is the V.P. for ? Or that something happens
that McCain doesn’t finish his first term ??

That is based on my assumption that McCain will retire after a single term. I could be wrong!

In which case...

PALIN / STEELE 2016

STEELE / JINDAL 2024

Now for another important battle under the radar: Mark Levin is concerned about what staffers will work for Sarah Palin. They could have a tremendous influence over a DC newcomer. McCain will want her to turn more centrist. And Mark Levin is warning us about the danger. Just something ot keep in mind down the road — Sarah’s staff.

BTW:

Glad to see you are posting. =]

[I had noticed a thread about you being OK and in a hospital.]

Thank you Jim. Hope you are well.
Sarah has brought back goodness and right to the base.
She has brought back the red, white and blue fighting spirit and apple pie feeling to Americans that have always been Proud of their country.

So many rumors going around about her, we pray for her strength.
And everyone call your local Republican Headquarters and see what can be done to help. Even if it is just a few hours of phone calls a week.
God Bless America.
God Bless our troops.
God Bless McCain/Palin.

if the Republicans would only run true conservatives then we'd win more elections.

I WANT to believe that is true, JR.

But I am perplexed as to why my excellent Senator Rick Santorum, a conservative among conservatives by all measures, LOST so badly in 2006.

I don't believe it was because he endorsed fellow Penna. US Sen. Arlen Spector, which is the reason most Freepers give as to the loss.

Solid conservatives support or endorse lib Republicans all the time, and they don't automatically lose as a result.

Needless to say, I am still ticked off and puzzled at the loss of Santorum, my favorite US Senator.

I think that’s a bit of a stretch - I think he was saying what other conservatives were saying - “don’t assume I will vote republican.”

Palin's ideology does not significantly add votes for McCain.

Although it is not indicative of the population in general, just the posts on this thread show that there are conservatives, some Independent some Republican, who will now vote for a McCain/Palin ticket and who were not going to vote for McCain pre-Palin. Many religious conservatives have newly come on board for McCain because of the Palin pick. It is difficult to judge just how many voters are in this category but I think the numbers are significant, especially if the election is close.

I don't see any evidence that liberals are now "energized" by the Palin nomination. On the contrary, many liberals appear to be demoralized by the large swing in the polls, largely brought about by Palin, and are acting more desperate than confident.

It will surely be an interesting election.

Jim - I have the highest respect for you.

I’m so happy to see this I have tears in my eyes as I write.

Nobody can ever say that you don’t have guts, or that you don’t follow your convictions, and this is a true victory for conservative thought in this country.

God Bless you.
