When NewsBusters posted the screencap shown here as its Weekend Captionfest on Friday, the result was an outpouring of affectionate reader responses. Typical was this one, from "iveseenitall":
"The ladies in my house instantly fell for this kid. "Oh" and "Oooh" and "Ah". The giggles, the pointing at the t.v. Love all around that night."
The MSM lives in a different house. Check out this candid admission from New York Times media reporter David Carr in his article in today's NYT [emphasis added]:
"In the press galleries at the convention, journalists wrinkled their noses in disgust when Piper, Ms. Palins youngest daughter, was filmed kitty-licking her baby brothers hair into place."

I think Piper sealed her mom’s fate as POTUS one day with that one gesture. It was just so adorable at first when she was smoothing his hair, but that big long lick of her hand had me cracking up.
Ironically, no one other than McCain would have picked her to be VP.
It's a true conundrum
They must be the most sanctimonious, bitter and angry people on the planet. I laughed out loud and then went awww, wasn’t that so cute!
Nothing wrong with Piper’s spit-comb. In fact, I took it as further evidence that Sarah has NEVER neglected her children to pursue her political career. You know just by watching that Piper didn’t learn that from a nanny!
Oh, that’s very sweet. How could anyone not think so?
Yeah, but hey, she's from such a small state.
Hey, do you know if it's true that Delaware is known as "The Pimple State?"
I never pointed out how sheltered, obtuse, and helplessly dependent they appeared to be.
The left hates life. They just hate it.
These alleged "journalists" have precisely no idea how good they have it in this wonderful Country; and,
they have no concept of just how truly miserable THEY will be if they ever get their wish for an Obama-ruled Utopian state collective.

Gertrude Stein wasn’t a cartoon leftist like the feminists of today. She was on very friendly terms with Mencken and other conservative/libertarian writers of her day. Her biographer said of her,
“she disliked Trotsky as much as Franco, and Roosevelt as much as either, and she referred to liberals ... as ‘people with unhappy childhoods’. It was a position that irritated her friends. When William Rogers sent her a packet of American corn seeds and warned her not to give any of the corn to her fascist neighbours in Bilignin, Gertrude returned the gift with a request: ‘please send us unpolitical corn.’ Why shouldn’t she give her friends the corn, she asked, ‘why not if the fascists like it and we like the fascists ...’”
She was an artist at a time that art could still be apolitical.
I think many of us in flyover country saw Governor Palin's family and thought the same thing. Her kids, husband, all looked REAL!. Their smiles were not forced, the way they touched and looked at each other indicted a family where the kids were raised right and the mom and pop loved each other. I think that's what middle-America made the connection with.
And that's why the Democrats are running so scared.
I never could find the vid of the news person. I clicked on the link in the article and there was a 2 page piece but no vid.
Yet the media went all ga ga over the “fist bump” between Barack and Michelle.
... and they continue to parade the depths of their irrational hatred and cold-heartedness in plain sight before us. They seem so out of sorts that they’re even forgetting to put on their nicey-nicey faces when they go on the attack. I pray the rest of America is paying attention and seeing them for what they are.
Maybe this wonderful child can show them all that the emperor has no clothes.
That was the highlight of the convention in my opinion....
I would put Governor Palin's speech at the top of the highlight list. The finish to McCain's speech (not that it ended, but the build up) was probably next.
Nonetheless, the video of Piper and Twig is certainly a memorable and positive image from the convention.
Why in the world would they do that, when for eight years they have written "Mr. Bush"?
I’ve spent this entire political season not liking John McCain. I think the Palin pick has done some uncanny things to the campaign that are being overlooked, not the least of which is that it has made both John and Cindy McCain appear more human as well.
I still do not agree with everything McCain stands for or even everything he said in his speech the other night. But he was real... as real as I’ve seen him.
Something about dealing with the Palin’s and the grief the media and liberals have given them has made John McCain real.
Another one of the many reasons his choice was the best.
We just don’t need to be fooled into thinking that Obama or the Media are going to be more real. They will continue to be the people (?) they are.
