ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sen. Barack Obama's foes seized Sunday upon a brief slip of the tongue, when the Democratic presidential nominee was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, "my Muslim faith."
The three words -- immediately corrected -- were during an exchange with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week," when he was trying to criticize the quiet smear campaign suggesting he is a Muslim.
But illustrating the difficulty of preventing false rumors about his faith from spreading, anti-Obama groups within one hour of the interview had sliced it out of context and were sending it around via email. They also were blogging about it.
Mr. Obama, who is a Christian and often proudly speaks about how his faith has influenced his public service, said he finds it "deeply offensive" that there are efforts "coming out of the Republican camp to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith."

OTOH, the words did flow very smoothly from his tongue, sort of like it wasn't the first time he ever spoke those particular words in that particular order. Hmmmm. But what counts is the lesson we learned from the infamous Daily Kos. That lesson is that, in elections, context doesn't count. Only sound bites count. And this is a doozer of a sound bite. So I say, context or not, pour it on. We've had many come our way and it is time to send a few back. As a wise man once said, if you live by the sword you may die by the sword.
We need a TV ad quick.. Ayatola Obama in his own words.
I’ve said this elsewhere about the video on Youtube and the context:
Why are you insisting that I give Obama the benefit of the doubt? That I make a leap of faith, if you will, for what he MEANT to say versus what he ACTUALLY said?
I have no idea what he MEANT to say, and I wouldnt assume that of anybody. I cant read minds.
However, I do understand what people ACTUALLY say, and I support Obama completely when he says WORDS MATTER. Therefore, all I can surmise is that Obama meant WHAT HE SAID this a.m., and we should believe him.
They killed Quayle on the potato”e” thang. Quayle didn’t lie about his secret potatoe religion.
Are you wondering if the fasting is getting to him? It does fog up the brains a bit. What with the headaches and constant food fantasies.
Along with the “100 years in Iraq” before that.
I think it deserves the same amount of time as the Dan Quale slip up.
By George Steponallofus. As if Obama momentarily forgot whether he was Christian or Moslem. This is so hot even the Washington Times is afraid to tell the truth, which we all saw on live TV or U-Tube.
OK :-)
How many times does this guy have to retract, slip up and have to indicate that what he intended to say about what he said is something different than what he actually said?
I have had many, many slips of the tongue. '[M]y Muslim faith' has never been one of them.
I think you have to be thinking something to slip that way. I'm not saying he's a Muslim, only that he must have to struggle to show people that he's not a Muslim every time he mentions faith.
Ditto that, and while we are comparing taters to Muslims lets just say I’ll take the one not lying to my face.
This is so like the middle-right press, like the Washington Times, to come out within hours with a defense of Obama. The left-wing press has done no such thing (that I can remember) for Palin or McCain. Dang high road stuff!
Obviously, it was not an admission of any kind.
However, since the Obama forces made ads using McCain’s laugh line from Saddleback - $5,000,000 is rich - spliced to make it look like a serious comment (quite a dastardly deed), can we make a commercial now carefully edited to make it look like an authentic confession of Barack’s Muslim Faith.
AHA!!!!
“They killed Quayle on the potatoe thang. Quayle didnt lie about his secret potatoe religion”
bhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Did Quayle wear a potatoe skin around his head ;-)
Can I ask you why he would accept a correction from Steph on clarification? It doesn’t make sense. Is he that stupid? Maybe
Barack Hussein Obama
