Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Just heard from my sister, there is a voluntary evacuation for a few towns in the county she lives (Brazoria). She said they will wait until tomorrow to see which direction this storm is going.
It seems that Ike is determined to hit Texas, it just is not sure where it wants to land.
It’s taking a while fro this thing to get out of here, can’t wait.
Austin:
Saturday
Showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Very windy. Locally heavy rainfall likely. Highs in the mid 80s. Chance of rain 100 percent.
Janice Dean, Fox, just said it could go north. Watch out, Houston!
Glad to know you are safe. Too many tornado stories from the Keys last night.
Waiting to see what this guy is gonna do. If it looks like it will hit our area, then I will head out to police up the yard.
.
After Katrina, I received two of those as Christmas gifts...I understand that after 2-19-2009, they won't work. I've never used them.
.
You and the Eaker clan take care, we might be in for a rough weekend.
Yeah. I have TWC on and the guy says it depends on when the through picks Ike up. He said he expects it to start going more westerly soon. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it but If this thing gets close to you or I and then makes that curve before landfall and follows the coast.....
Yall take care.
So many “weather people” saying so many different things :’(
bttt !!!
We laid in two tons of dog food.
We should be good for a few days...........

I am SOOOO glad my parents moved from Rockport, TX to Georgetown, TX two years ago, after my dad pulled a Nagin and didn’t prepare to evacuate as Rita was coming at them (fortunately, Rita veered to the north). Rockport is dead-center on the track now.
How long do you think Ike will keep sucking in this dry air from the west? It seems to be giving him a hard time getting really well organized?
This one has me very worried for my hometown: Angleton, Tx. (30 mi due S of Houston)
Any landfall north of Corpus would hit them pretty hard. They are already starting evacuations of the barrier islands and Freeport.
We are anxiously awaiting Obama to address the Swinegate Scandal. tee hee!
