Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.

Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Marathon at Sombrero light has 46 knot winds Sand Key Light off Key West 55 sustained--gusts to 61 and the Tortugas in the 50's and may get a little more as the storm passes.

This is going to be the peak of it all for the Keys, it will all be down hill from here on.

I was stationed in Key West back in 1986 - 1987 when I was in the USAF. The Truman Annex. I recall Duval flooding several times during heavy rains.

No, not in Corpus. About 90 miles east and 25 miles from the coast.

The bad part is having relatives all along the Texas Gulf Coast!

Thanks Meek. Looks like it may miss me but sure hope it doesn’t hit the Harlingen area again like Dolly did!!

The Gulf has been riled all week.

It seems it's been riled since Dolly. Two days ago, the sky was clear blue and it was raining buckets.

I ought to get up and get back to work since one model still pointing our way. NN said not to chase the outliers though so I think I will just pick up my Granddaughter and go get a burger at Sonic.

It’s so wet around here the dirt is green.
I was in La Feria yesterday when the rain cut loose.
Had to walk in almost knee deep water to cross the street.
We absolutely do not need more rain.

Pebcak, has your hurricane dog given any indications about Ike yet? LOL!

Nautinurse, as always, thank you for all you do!
Your hurricane threads are a priceless resource.

I didn't know Sarah Palin was campaigning in Florida today.

run ran thru all the models at Penn State. Models have Ike going any where from N. Mexico to Freeport Tx, but Corpus was the place most of the models wanted Ike to visit. But Ike's got plenty of time, right now he's keeping his final destination a secret. Could it be that Ike is planning a surprise party? lol,

Looks like the ballgame will be determined by how weak the forecast weakness in the high ridge over the South East US will be in 48-72 hours. Ridge hangs together and Ike goes South of Corpus, Ridge weaken alot and Ike goes to Corpus, Ridge collapses and Ike goes to Freeport/Galveston maybe even La.

Texas Governor Rick Perry has issued a disaster declaration in response to the significant threat posed by Hurricane Ike to 88 counties.

The governor’s declaration allows the state to pre-deploy resources requested by local officials so communities are ready to respond to possible severe weather.

State resources are ready for rapid deployment as necessary, and volunteer organizations are prepared to provide mass care support for residents as needed.
Up to 75-hundred guardsmen, Texas Task Force One and Two, and 19 aerial resources are on standby for deployment.

The Texas Forest Service continues to staff a resource staging area in east Texas and is identifying incident management team and medical personnel.

The state fuel team is working to ensure adequate fuel supplies along potential evacuation routes and monitoring demand increases.

Texas is also coordinating with the state of Oklahoma, which is prepared to shelter 12-thousand-500 medical special needs patients from Texas if necessary.
