Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Are you in Corpus ?...
Winds 80 mph, 965 mb, moving W at 13 mph.
Hurricane force winds extend 35 miles from the center.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward 195 miles.
A thing to remember. Most cars run on gas. Keep your tanks as full as you can. Top off when bad weather threatens.
Our truck has a 27 gal tank, 13 in the Mazda, 12 in the Honda. The Focus gets the best mpg.
A couple of 5 gal jugs will get you going if the power goes out. The hours after the storm moves will tell you how long the power might be out. You can then siphon gas out of the vehicles you're not using to keep the generator going.
Try not to store gas in the generator. It goes bad plus gums up the carburetor. If you filled it for Hurricane season siphon it out and run the last few minutes of gas out. Makes it a lot easier come ice season ( for us).
Tale a count of the watts you want to run. I've got a 5 kw and it will power the frig, a window A/C or oil heater, entertainment center, a couple of lights and the computer center with a few watts extra
Thanx for the ping NN - and all you do.
Fidel Castro, 82 and convalescing at a secret location,
issued one of his periodic "reflections," praising Cuba's
civil defense efforts and accusing the US government of
reveling in Cuba's sorrows from Ike and the storms that
preceded it, Gustav and Hanna. Boston.com

Just because they are paranoid, doesn’t mean we’re NOT out to get them :)
He keeps moving south
Thanks for the morning ping NN
Hope you rested well.
Thanks, I needed that and moreso this morning than last night. :)
cool pics, apologies if already posted.
I understand all of the other models are pretty much in agreement of a South Texas landfall but I was just wondering why these two show such a different track.

Good Morning NN and all.....what a night and it’s still blowing pretty good, looks like we’ll have this all day. Some gusts over CAT1 strength last night in the first outer band that hit us. Posted about it here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2076695/posts?page=520#520
This is a remarkably dry storm but the winds have been above what I thought we’d get. Lots of palm fronds and tree limbs down outside. Went out 3 times during the night to check on the boats, hard time getting any sleep. Tide is up about 18” above normal and I think it’s low tide right now.
No big deal, just another yard mess to clean.

The latest from The Dallas Mourning Spews:
Track Hurricane Ike
My spideyweight sense is tingling. Bull redfish will be rolling in on every high tide along upper Texas coast passes the next few days.
/we use something called spider weights to keep our baits down in the mad pass current. They are typically 8 oz weights with long copper spider legs that come out and are bent halfway at 45 to grapple the sand. It looks like a 4 legged spider.
Thanks much for checking in and providing your local update. We’re thinking about you down in the Keys. Beware of twisters today.
HMM. He going to your place or mine? I think you are definately going to be on the windy side though.
To repeat...follow the trends with models...do not focus on the outliers.
Thanks.
