Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

We have a little place down the shore. After seeing that video I sure am glad we are not beach front.
I know what you mean. Lots of folks on the Atlantic Coast 2nd row figure they’ll be first row oceanside one of these days.
Just spoke with my friend in Homestead, thinking she must've been getting high winds from the outer bands. Surprisingly and thankfully, she's experienced only 25-30mph gusts. Her avocado grove is loaded with fruit.
I know the Keys haven't fared so well. Prayers for you all down there.
If Ike comes, don't forget to listen to 410 am KURV, the open line calls are hilarious. OTOH, it was wonderful to hear people helping each other.
We don't need no stinkin FEMA.
WOW ... glad to see you outta jail. Did
the winds drive you batty? They had to
have been rough. Everything OK at your HQ?
No flooding from surge?
Cheers!
We have one computer that has issues with Google Earth just like you described. Don't know whether it is the video card or MS Vista. The other computers--all with XP--don't have that problem.
Yeah...big problem. It’s raining now , here.
I’ve narrowed it down to the ATI video driver (under Linux). My other Linux computer, with Nvidia but same software otherwise, doesn’t have the problem.
I forget where you are.
I hate to complain because I’m thrilled he’s not coming here and praying for those who are in the path, but I wish he’d hurry up and get out of here, I’ve had a hurricane headache for days now!
susie
Doesn’t it seem like he’s been around for the longest time?
Thank you! Been so busy fending off libs on other forums I haven’t even looked at a loop today!
Winds have decreased to 75 mph, 970 mb, moving WNW at 12 mph.
pray for wind shear
.
Holy Cow! Last I checked yesterday it looked like Houston/Corpus Christi was a better bet. Now, looks to be headed more our way in the RGV.
We aren’t in that area currently, I best keep a close eye and call our neighbors if it heads that way.
Advil Gelcaps. The wonder drug.
Pulaski Shoal has sustained winds 54 mph.
