Hurricane Ike Live Thread
NOAA/NHC ^ | 7 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 09/07/2008 8:37:37 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.

Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

As usual the most dangerous place in the Keys this past week was between our mendacious mayors and a media microphone. It's time to start evacuating the media when the dynamic duo evacuate tourists. Perhaps denying them face time will make them a little less trigger happy.

Ike entered the Golf of Mexico! He's fallen into the trap, we've got him now. No place he can go without running into one of us.

You're surrounded, "I've got the enemy just where I want him." lol.

As I’ve said many times, it’s going to take a massive head injury from flying debris before the wethead reporters come in from the storms. This will be followed by a week of reporters mourning their brave colleague. Then we’ll have to watch the rest of them reporting through their hotel room windows during hurricanes. Sigh.

It rally does. I wish he’d just get finished already! (of course I hope he dies out in the Gulf, that would be lovely!)

Advil doesn’t work for me. I take 2 excedrine migranes and one ibuprophen per my neurologists advice. Works more or less, but sometimes, nothing really does. I’m sure it’s the barometric pressure. It’s REALLY bad when we get a real hurricane.

Ike obviously hasn't watched any of the old westerns. Nobody falls for the "box canyon" maneuver anymore.

Isn’t that the truth? Yall think since the models have started going up I can stop cleaning house and over-preparing? I’m getting tired.

HI star, not really all that bad.
Worst thing I heard was that a Publix semi rolled over on a bridge during a 60 knot gust, other than that haven't heard too much.

One of the locals in Key West(during a live broadcast that I saw) scared away a tv rookie from Miami telling him that the baracudas would bite his feet if he insisted on standing in the water. It was a riot the guy really believed him as well.
