BREAKING: Sarah Palin "Winged" Her Speech Because of "Broken" Teleprompter
Red State ^ | September 4, 2008 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 09/04/2008 5:02:21 AM PDT by Virginia Ridgerunner

Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.

Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.

Sarah Palin. Winner.

Of all the things to mess up, that has to be the worst. That can literally make or break and candidate. Whoever is responsible for the teleprompter, should not only should be fired but should be drawn and quartered!

LOL One of the reports I read made a big deal of Sara using a teleprompter. I guess they won’t be reporting that it was broken. Of course, if this had happened to o-zero at the convention, the dems would be calling for an investigation today.

She is indeed remarkable. From what I’ve read, she never used a teleprompter before last night. He speech some from simple notes- and straight from memory and her own thoughts.

The youngest daughter, Piper, reminds me of the adorable little girl they got to play Lucy Pevensie in the new Narnia series.

I’m pissed! I saw her looking at notes yesterday so I asked in the Convention thread if something happened to the prompter.

This could’ve been GAME OVER if Sarah wasn’t a natural. Who is this prompter guy!!!!!

"CAREFUL! This could be a trap. Someone could be setting up us to tout this “fact” over and over, and then a video will magically appear showing that the teleprompter was working, and that will only give the “she-didn’t-write-her-speech mantra another news cycle. In HD on CNN, there were several angles that showed the teleprompter, and I’m pretty sure it was in synch with her voice every time they showed it.

I want this to be true as much as anyone, but until I see a flawless, trusted source, I’m not going to go around repeating it."

I concur, kind sir. I believe that we need to make sure we are prudent in our verification of this information, lest we hand over limitless ammunition to the left and MSM (redundant) to dredge up later...

Well put. You haven’t seen Zerobaba’s teleprompter skip a beat. McCain better have a backup, and fire the a-hole.

I am so glad they showed little Piper attending to her baby brother’s hair.
It was a precious moment.

A hard stance on drilling, NOW, and nuclear, NOW!

though I havent been followin John Ms drilling policies of late, it seemed as Gov Palin upped the ante when speaking of drilling...'the North shores' line says his global warmongering 'coastal only' platform might be changing ???

[If Gov. Palin and John McCain deliver knock out speeches, I wonder how long before the democrat media will start taking about their speech writers.

They have brought this up time and time again whenever Bush has made major speeches and I suspect it will be brought up again with McCain and Palin. The objective is, of course, to show everyone that their words are not their own.

So far, I haven’t heard any such reference made about obama’s speeches.

It turns out that Mort Krondachy (sp) on Fox was the first to bring this up on that channel. Thank God, Brit Hume softened Mort’s jab by saying that ALL candidates have speechwriters, EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM.

Thank you Brit.

I was surprised that nothing untoward seemed to happen during her speech.
For some reason "Stuff happens" during Republican events-

April 10, 1996

Mrs. Dole affixed a body microphone to her daffodil-colored suit and walked calmly through the audience. She did not even lose her concentration when her microphone failed (she fiddled with a wire on her waist without skipping a word) or when an overheated balloon burst with a startling pop.

Sept. 18, 1996

- Bob Dole falls off stage at campaign rally in Chico, Calif., after railing gives way;

The tele-prompter nerd was truly an angel inspired by the holy spirit. All is well that goes well. This great Alaska Governor will not be thwarted.

So far, I’ve only seen Rich Lowry reporting this, and he said he heard it from a McCain aide:

She should go off the cuff more often.

I've done a fair share of public speaking, audiences as large as 2,500 or so. Can't say I enjoy the experience, but I can say if you are speaking on a topic you are passionate about, you don't need a teleprompter. Your passion, principles and values will speak for you when the time comes. Granted, the stakes were much higher for her and I am sure an aide would help her stay on track and cover all points. That said, when I see someone like Obama off teleprompter using excessive vocal bridges, repeating the same lines over and over, going back to his home plate "change you can believe in" repeatedly, I see a man with no principles, values or passion. He is simply acting; playing a role. As conniving as the Obama appearance on O'Reilly is tonight as it relates to timing. Bill O'Reilly can end the election tonight. If he asks some hard nosed questions, insists on getting a straight answer and Obama goes into the uhhh, well, "back when I was a Senator", etc. it will be incredibly damaging to place that in contrast between Palin's speech and John McCain's speech.
