BREAKING: Sarah Palin "Winged" Her Speech Because of "Broken" Teleprompter
Red State ^ | September 4, 2008 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 09/04/2008 5:02:21 AM PDT by Virginia Ridgerunner

Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.

Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.

Sarah Palin. Winner.

I am reminded of a line from the Simpsons movie:

President Schwarzenegger is sitting in the Oval Office and he says:

I was elected to lead, not to read!

We just went back to it last night!

I thought the same thing! What a cutie! SUCH a gorgeous family she has.

You cannot deliver a speech like she did without her having a lot of input — not going to happen especially if the teleprompter goes haywire even for a few minutes.

I had Rudy’s speech along with the others and he started deviating but I figured it was Rudy being Rudy who knows what he wants to say and could sense his hitting Obama was working so he went for more red meat. The ending he really changed up for the better. I watched him do it all last year making speeches WITHOUT a teleprompter and with few notes. Most of his notes were for when he had to recognize people. Big speeches always had a book with the written copy of the speech in it on the podium. Now we know why — teleprompters.

I worked up the talking point papers when Rudy came to Oklahoma last year and parts of those ended up in his speech as he read them on plane before his next stop. I believe Gov Palin has that same capability to read talking points, put them in the speech, and remember what she wants to say.

Now we learn that Gov Palin was the same way which makes me even prouder of her and the way she handled her speech which was fantastic. Not many people can do that so we have a smart, intelligent, gifted speaker who has the ability to adapt to the situation.

Actually, there were two moments. The first (sorry, I can’t remember the point in the speech, just the recognition that something was up) was a caribou in the headlights look that lasted about 1/20 of a second, and she caught herself on a word that was at first out of place.

The second, a little more obvious, came about halfway through, when she said a big “Well!” and then switched topics completely. I thought at the time that there was a big disconnect, but I didn’t know why.

Yep!

And had it been Barack HUSSEIN Obama at the podium,
it would have been 30 minutes of ...

Uh ... Uh! ... Uh ... Uh! ... Uh ... Uh! ...
Uh ... Uh! ... Uh ... Uh! ... Uh ... Uh! ...
Uh ... Uh! ... Uh ... Uh! ... Uh ... Uh! ...

etc ...

This morning on radio, I heard twice on ‘news’ that Sarah’s speech was written by someone else...oh, the horror! The public doesn’t realize they all have their speeches written by a writer!

Nolan Ryan did not invent the fastball. But he delivered it better than anyone in history.

I used to attend Astro games when I lived in that area. The sound of a NR fastball into the mitt of his catcher was a sound so different from the others on their staff, or of their opponents. The games I mention were seen in the Astrodome. It was a sound only an NR fastball could make, which you could hear anywhere in the stadium, geesh, even in the rest room.

Last night, that speech was akin to hearing a NR fastball. You knew you were hearing something "different".

I bet they (Team Obama) expected her to mess up and when she didn’t, the stage storming occurred by Code Pink.

That would have only been an issue if they knew in advance that the Teleprompter would break.

Rudy for Attorney General

Right, an arrogant anti-gun thug. Super. Just what we need. I’d prefer Fred Thompson, who actually understands the Constitution.

Obviously Dem talking points were issued. Hell, even two commentators on FOX after the speech made the "written for her" comment. Brit called them on both on it and said that all politicians have their speeches written for them and he wondered why this was even brought up.

Yes, I also saw her looking down at papers and moving them. I thought she had decided to do that on purpose because she was unfamiliar with using a teleprompter. It didn't make me feel any less thrilled with her speech or her delivery, however.

Then, this morning on FOX I heard that because Rudy's speech drew so much applause (IT WAS A GREAT ONE ALSO), that they had run behind in the schedule and had to run whole paragraphs through the teleprompter for him. And that is what caused him to skip over some segments. I guess that was the same situation for Sarah. But she was PREPARED. Just as a good leader should be!

Quite a contrast to Obama...who can't even answer a few questions from reporters when he is eating his waffles, or who won’t give his opinion because the answer might be “above his pay grade.” Sarah stood before thousands, and never skipped a beat with her address.

I think what is most effective about the way she puts down the opposition, is that she reminds us (me at least) of that favorite school teacher one might have had. You know, the one who catches you cheating and calls you on it, but does it with a smile. She doesn't let you get away with it, she lets you know you have been found out, but she chastises you in a gentle, knowing way and exposes you for being a fraud.

That, Obama and Obama’s supporters can see. I am sure they don’t understand it just yet. But handling frauds and sneaks in a strong way and outing their nonsensical actions and statements with a smile takes discipline, a solid knowledge of right and wrong, and a confidence that only a woman sure of herself and her abilities can display. Sarah is nobody’s patsy, no mealy-mouthed lady. She is an Iron Lady with a gentle touch.

Ok, sources please. Don’t flame.

I'm with you on this... I hope it is true, but I have my doubts. I remember Brit mentioning the "one time" she went off script with the pit-bull joke. They all had copies of her speech and would have been talking about her deviating from it if she had.

Again... no flames, please... I want it to be true, I just don't know that it is.

It wasn't a Genine Pireau moment..."O.K. where is my page seven,....I need my page 7......someone give me my page seven! As she was declaring her candidacy for Republican sentorial candidate from New York.
