[Peggy] Noonan, [Mike] Murphy trash Palin on hot mic: 'It's over'
Politico ^ | Sep 3, 2008 | Ben Smith

Posted on 09/03/2008 1:45:52 PM PDT by Alter Kaker

After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullshit about narratives," she said. "Everytime Republicans do that -- because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

In today's Wall Street Journal, Noonan was warmer to Palin, whom she wrote "could become a transformative political presence."

"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."

Since filing, Noonan has apparently decided which side this one is coming down on.

This doesn’t change my opinion of Peggy — I stopped liking her a long time ago.

Favorite line of the day. Thanks for the grin.

Fire them as “Consultants.” Murphy and Noonan are through.

Bye.

What a fantastic example of a liberal doing what they do best---babbling incoherently, with a mixture of expletives thrown in for good measure. I can picture all the first-semester, know-it-all college freshman saying "hell yeah!" dude!

The woman is a shrew. If I recall, she had some rather catty things to say about Reagan also.

I guess McCain and Palin haven’t asked Peggy to write any speeches for them.

The closest she’ll get this election cycle? Maybe Biden will plagiarize some of her old work.

I like Peggy and agree with her on many things - love her writing on many occasions.

She’s wrong on this one. And that’s all, she’s wrong.

No need to trash-talk her along with Palin.

Wow, McCain playing politics in a poltical campaign. Who would have thought? You have to consider the
alternatives. Choosing Mitt or Pawlenty would have generated zero buzz. The Dems wrote the script on those two long ago and it would have resulted in a long, slow march to defeat with an un-enthused base and a bored but still ridiculously pro-Obama media. Leiberman would have been a trainwreck. Palin wasn’t quite ready to come off the bench (think blue-chip rookie who gets thrown in the game during the play-offs) but she mixed things up. New script.

Interesting. Peggy Noonan was the same snob who immediately destroyed Harriet Meiers because she wasn't qualified enough since she didn't come from an Ivy League school. Now, same argument from her, different woman.

The public evisceration of Harriet Meiers by Peggy Noonan and her elitist cabal was the beginning of the destruction of George Bush. The libs smelled blood in the water and went in for the kill.

I didn’t know sweet little Peggy even know such foul words.

Friend of mine who knew her well back when says she was a tough broad, could drink the hard stuff, and had the mouth of a longshoreman.

Totally true to character.

The MSM is so angry they’ve not been asked whom to select...

I think that's the main reason they are angry. BTW...nice going Peggy. Give these monsters on the left more ammunition. You want to talk sh*t, go to the parking lot, don't sit there with a mic on for all the world to hear. As if MCNBC is so trustworthy they wouldn't keep the mics live and try to catch you guys talking about something like this? Dumb woman.

Yall don't jump all over me but I don't think McCain was brilliant but lucked out. I think he went for a conservative woman to draw in votes but had no idea how this was going to play out and is now just sitting back grinning and enjoying the ride.

Peggy and Murphy have become DC elites and have been drinking the beltway water. Fact is 80% of Americans are disgusted and think the country is headed in the wrong direction and that includes many conservatives. McCain and Palin will prevail if Obama is exposed for what he is.

I’m so pissed at Noonan I could scream. And here I was defending her on FR a few weeks ago. I just might cancel my WSJ subscription because of that w(b)!tch.

The article is actually ok, although I don’t think it’s going to be easy for any staffer to just ride roughshod over Palin.

Maybe Peggy took a deep breath and thought about it for a second before she wrote the article.

At her best, Peggy Noonan has a real gift for describing events and their impact. Her reports about Pope John Paul II's death and his funeral made me cry, and I didn't really like her even then. However, her verbal facility is at its height when she's talking about herself and her feelings ... and she can't do that honestly in this situation.

What could this aging has-been honestly say about a younger, prettier, happier, already-more-successful woman who is about to take a leap into the political stratosphere? (And I hope I can stay awake until 10:30 tonight :-). Nothing I'd want on the permanent record!

Peggy Noonan is such a pretentious melodramatic diva-wannabe who is still living on her “shining city on the hill” cred from 25 years ago. She is a northeastern RINO who is soooo patronizing and condescending to the flyover hoi polloi. Her opinion means nothing. Sarah could wipe the floor with her. And will.

Well said.
