After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.
"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.
"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullshit about narratives," she said. "Everytime Republicans do that -- because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."
Murphy chimed in:
"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."
In today's Wall Street Journal, Noonan was warmer to Palin, whom she wrote "could become a transformative political presence."
"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."
Since filing, Noonan has apparently decided which side this one is coming down on.
Poor, envious Peggy, left behind by history. Perhaps it’s time to retire to a religious order, bless her heart.
Peggy is soooooo old, soooooo dried-up, soooooo jealous.
Nice to know who your friends are...........Et tu Peggy?........
Hello. Peggy Noonan is part of the Northeast elite. I’m sure she attends the cocktail parties. She wants to be invited back.
Is this real or fake? The Kosbots have been all over this, so I’m inclined to doubt its veracity unless I hear otherwise.
Didn’t she just pen a sprited defense of Palin the other day?
Wow! they just made themselves officially irrelevant! Good job, guys!
Also sooooo busted.
This doesn’t change my opinion of Peggy — I stopped liking her a long time ago.
What a witch!
...its time to retire to a religious order, bless her heart.
She looks good in black............
I was tiring of Noonan’s grandiose theories of speechmaking for now anyway. Guess she can sit the rest of this one out. Has she now become that inside-the-beltway establishment-loving type?
Well lots of out here in the West like an outsider to east coast life and the beltway gossip and backstabbing environment.
Well, the insiders do not like an outsider...even if it’s someone in their own party.
What cracks me up is these people think John McCain would have been better off with someone else as the veep pick?
Let’s be clear..John McCain has been the underdog in this race from the get go, and he needed something to excite people...especially his own party’s base.
I’ve had it with Peggy Noonan, she’s the Maureen Dowd of the Republican party. She can take her tight little sphincter and sit and spin.
The MSM is so angry they’ve not been asked whom to select...
Well it didn’t take long for the ‘Pubs to take over the Dems dirty work and send out the circular firing squad.
The VP debate is what will decide whether this pick turns out to be a fiasco or not. I’m really hoping she is going to be able to talk intelligently about relations with Pakistan, social security trust funds and the like. If so, then she can be seen as a strong candidate. If not, then no amount of spin will save McCain. Just telling the truth here- I can’t force myself to unreservedly welcome this choice like so many others here can. It was a huge gamble with candidates like Romney and Jindal out there. Hopefully the gamble will pay off, but we won’t know until the debate.
