After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.
"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.
"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullshit about narratives," she said. "Everytime Republicans do that -- because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."
Murphy chimed in:
"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."
In today's Wall Street Journal, Noonan was warmer to Palin, whom she wrote "could become a transformative political presence."
"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."
Since filing, Noonan has apparently decided which side this one is coming down on.
Dear Peggy,
I have always enjoyed your commentary, and the way you came off as erudite and classy - the polar opposite of someone like, say Eleanor Clift.
How sad it is to hear what you really feel once the cameras aren’t rolling, and even sadder to read your public remarks which don’t align.
Since we now know that the opinions coming out of your mouth (in public at least) aren’t necessary how you REALLY feel, but some kind of... oh, let’s say show-for-money, I think we can safely dismiss you as yet-another-meaningless-media-blowhard, pontificating for cash.
Sad.
They’re done in Republican Politics. Adios.

I believe O’relly is sympathetic to these comments.
Let’s see if the radio talkers will blow the doors off these two posers. I posted the Kay Bailey article earlier, now I’m glad this verifies my hunch about KB also.
If only these Einstein’s would listen to BHO (like today) at a town q&a there is no way you go for brain dead BHO.
The Alaskan political landscape is littered with the carcasses of people who underestimated Sarah Palin.
Maybe it is because she has been swooning over Hussein because he is an exotic black man and she thinks this will be payback for slavery. LOL, what an idiot.
Bingo!
Even when home, it is extremely rare for me to talk to ANY sales/poll/political caller. I’m generally off the phone before they can get the first sentence out of their mouths.
“McCain is losing independents right now.”
What is your evidence for this assertion?
“And I hope I can stay awake until 10:30 tonight”
Are you kidding me this is going to be Mrs. Smith goes to Washington.
Drink tea or coffee and enjoy lol.
May they spend eternity debating with David Gergen and Scott McClellan.
It’s over, all right but that is in reference to her conservative readership. Ping me if she writes something nice about our beloved Ronnie but otherwise fuggetaboutit.
Mike Murphy was showed the door in a campaign shake-up by Sen McCain.
Speechless ping
If Palin can excel tonight, she can still win some RATs and Indies over to our side. The MSM is going to continue to savage her, but if she keeps fighting, she may yet prove to be a shrewd gamble.
I listened to this. It’s funny, many of us here along with some national party regulars, feel very strongly that Palin was a creative, genuinely great choice. I’m not sure what Peggy Noonan is trying to say, but she’s wrong.
McCain, yes is taking a big chance with her. He could have gone easy with Romney. But he still has Romney and the others to campaign for him.
Newt is genuinely high on this choice, as is Rudy and the others. Dick Morris I thought was going to get apoplectic on the TV from shear joy.
Cynicism? The only other person talking like this is Savage.
I guess we’ll all see tonight who this person is.
Peggy is part of the Maureen Dowd/Sally Quinn elitist crowd of Botoxed harridans who guzzle Cosmopolitans who all claim to be the inspiration of Carrie Bradshaw, a fictional skank from Sex and the City. Democrat or Republican, they are all the same. No core principles there.
I think this “hot mike”, while having the appearance of being a mistake, was in fact deliberate. Too quick to the youtube and across the Internet.
