Overlap of Sarah's Vetting &Security Clearance? (FR help needed)
none | 09/03/2008 | Taildragger

Folks,

Someone in the "Freep" community probably can help with this question. As Gov. of Alaska, did Sarah Palin need a Security Clearance and how does that "Overlap" with the Vetting Process if at all?

The reason I ask is this, If she has a Clearance in regards to her role with the National Guard, doesn't that stop the improper vetting argument if the two processes overlap?

Doesn't that also nix the so many of the inexperience arguments?

The ObamaMedia crowd is acting as if the focus of the vetting process would’ve been the love life of her teenage daugher. Rather it involves issues of finance, ethics and governance, in addition to any potential scandals of the principals.

To their minds, obsessed with sex, and guilty about leaving their kids at home (why else the vitriol at Sarah), the vetting process should have included the 17 year old daughter.

Backfire is not only a Russian Bomber.

Security process is something else altogether. She will get a national security briefing at some point, if not already and lots more when the ticket wins.

Just to be clear, you're talking about the McCain campaign's claim that the FBI vetted Palin for them. The FBI has denied they did any vetting.

I think somebody just misspoke. It would be grossly inappropriate for the FBI to do this on behalf of any political party.

I can't see why the Governor of Alaska would need a security clearance to run the National Guard. Who knows though.

I doubt that a VP is required to have a security clearance. I know a President does not, and assume that a Governor is automatically cleared by his/her election to the level necessary to their position.

The reason being that ‘they’ consider that merely being elected to a position gives one the clearances in a de-facto way.

Sorry, this doesn’t really help with what you are trying to do with this question: And since a President can grant any security clearance level, to anyone, at any time, it makes it kind of moot anyway.

but as a member of the senate he’s authorized pretty much anything, legally
NSA has refused to 'read in' some Senators to specific need-to-know programs. How do you think they get to the NYSlimes? Tell a Congresscritter and they go running to the enemy like Rockefeller did before the Iraq invasion.

The vetting issue is one started by the left because their attacks were phony. Nothing that has come out about Palin thus far would have changed McCain’s mind about selecting her. What we have so far is: a pregnant unwed daughter, a husband who had a DUI 20 years ago, a fishing violation, and the legal firing of a police chief. Since none of the attacks are sticking the left has changed gears to imply that she is so unqualified and stained that McCain would not have selected her if he had vetted her properly.

As to security clearances: She doesn’t need them. The federal government does not have any right to give or withdraw clearances for functions that fall under the authority of a State. If she were ever exposed to classified fed govt material she would have to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Friends definitely, drug use is dependent on when the last time of use was. You'd bet they'd want to know absolutely everything about his relationship with Ayres. On drugs, usually it's a year of no use , depending on the amount and if there was distribution. Although, if you are a middle aged adult and only quit one year ago, you will not be cleared.

Normally I do not think that an elected Governor get a security clearance because in most instances they do not have a need to know about their state’s National Guard Federal mission. Those Governors whose state’s are Border States may have a need for security clearances due to the need to know about intelligence data. For example the Governor of Wyoming not having an international boarder does not have a need access to international intelligence data, however, in this case where the Governor is from Alaska she may need to know about potential intelligence gathering activities of Russians and their defensive/offensive posture. Bottom line is I think it would be different for each state Governor and would all depend on their need to know.

Last but not least in the political world the vetting process comes down to what does the individual bring to the ticket and what is their experience and has nothing to do with their ability to have access to classified information.

I can just see the mouth, Biden lipping off to some foreign dignitary and starting an international incident.

There's a real danger he'll get into a shouting match, at least.

After all, he yelled, "I think I have a higher IQ than you," at a man in an audience who disagreed with him. That was the same time that he lied about his class rank.

I can easily picture Biden getting in a fight with Putin. Each man has a chip on his shoulder.

Biden is not working class or middle class. He is "no class."

McCain told the 70 democratic women he met with in June that Palin was on his list of VP picks. The woman Cavuto has had on multiple times (of ytube fame) said they will not let be done to Palin what happened to Hill. Just heard this on his show today.
I think after tonight the vetting questions will go away. It’s just the MSM doing more of Bambi’s work for him.

Not likely she’d need over a straight Secret for any guard business.

Maybe pre 9/11.

I am not sure, but I think members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Committe on Intelligence need clearances. I know for sure their staff members are required to go through the standard clearance process, to include counter intelligence polygraphs.

I remember former Rep Pat Schroeder of CO complaining she had to vote on black box programs without knowing what they were because she did not have the clearance necessary.

The only improper vetting argument is in the small envious minds of the Rats and their MSM and Bloger cronies.

The vetting process occurred over a 6 month period and included 70 or more people to start off, including Palin. They were scrutinized carefully and even had to fill out a 70 page questionnaire.

Yeah, can’t remember who it was, but apparently he told the press things that were highly classified.
