ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

People, this is a major plus. Palin will now tour around and talk about the mother’s perspective on the problems of society and for the first time ever, she can bring that to the vice presidency.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

All you freepers moaning 'this is bad', 'she is now a bad VP choice', this will 'push the evangelical vote away', yadda yadda yadda are just proving the decades old liberal mantra of 'conservatives are self-righteous hateful bigots" to have been RIGHT! Sickens me.

I wonder if the smart and graceful thing to do is “decline” to accept the nomination. After all, her son is going to Iraq. She has a newborn baby. Her daughter is pregnant and unwed. This would allow a new Veep candidate to step to the plate, immediately.

This would be the worst possible thing to do. It would empower the left wing lunatics and make their swollen heads the size of the sun.

That’ll be the least of it. The Dr. Laura wing of the GOP will be howling about how if she’d just been a good stay-at-home mom this wouldn’t have happened. Her priorities will be questioned for allowing her teenage daughter to be thrust so cruelly into the media spotlight at such an unfortunate time. The libs will have a field day using this as proof of the wisdom of planned parenthood, sex education and condoms for all. Not to mention, that with just over 60 days left in the election cycle, and the pre-empted Republican Convention, this is going to become THE media story for the next 2 months.

It doesn’t matter how rational people view this. The MSM is going to shape this story to their purposes, and this is going to get very ugly.

_________________________________________________________

The MSM was going to find something(s) to attack Palin on. If this is the best they can do, then we are quite fortunate. Sorry. I fail to see how this reflects poorly on Palin. I know lot’s of good parents whose children do irresponsible things. Palin can prove here meddle by being a loving mom and a source of moral guidance. Palin was going to get a bloody nose at some point in the campaign. Now is just as good a time as any. Let’s see how she handles it.

And she’s pro-life, and they’re not trying to kill a baby to make a problem go away. The abortion movement got off the ground in my era because we used to treat young girls who got carried away with their boyfriends as the worst creatures on the face of the earth. Because of how they were treated, they went looking desperately for a solution....and they came up with abortion.

It certainly gives credibility to her pro-life stand. Might go over with the Lifetime voting bloc.

Kids can just be so stupid.

So can 30-year-olds.

POST OF THE DAY!!!!

"What an utterly nonsensical post. Do you think that evangelicals demand perfection? Should our standard be above what God Himself demands? Evangelicals understand that we live in a fallen world and are, ourselves, fallen people. It is only grace that saves us."

"I wholly support Sarah Palin and am thankful she is on the ticket!"

How many females here were interesting in that within a week or two after giving birth? You must be out of your mind.

As I said in #228: It does present a problem, but abortion is a real issue so it presents an opportunity also. She can move the conversation to responsibility over convenience and unconditional love of our children in a way a man could not.

As I posted the timing is goofy--but it is hard to believe Saraah would try and keep it secret from McCain --maybe they thought they could keep it quiet till after the election

No Sarah would never try to hide it from the campaign. She is an adult and understands reality. But 17 year old girls who turn up with a pregnancy and are the daughter of governors are under enough stress so as not to necessarily make the realistic decision on telling people about their pregnancy.

Screw elections and politics. The girl may have had a really bad mental week. But now it is out in the open and people who care about her can start working on making it better.

If Obama was smart he would immediately issue a statement asking the press to lay off the candidate’s daughter in this private matter.

I doubt it. The timing on the announcement is not really good. The appropriate time to announce it would have been in Alaska prior to the choice, or as part of the press release for the choice. It would have been much less of a circus
:
:
:
If he says he knew, then he knew.
I don’t doubt McCain or Palin’s word on that.
Also, the timing is pretty good, because of the hurricane coverage and really.
The left WANTS conservatives to turn on Palin, because look at what she’s done to the base.
It’s sad to see so many here falling for it.
Again..look at Reagan’s kids, Cheney’s daughter.
It’s not important in the long run.

How is this seriously screwed up?

A pregnant high-school student isn't screwed up? I'm sorry, I can't help you there.

Understand that this doesn't lessen my support for Palin one bit, but only by defining deviancy down can you arrive at the conclusion that a 17-year-old unmarried girl pregnant in this society isn't seriously screwed up.

I pray to God that Bristol Palin and her baby are healthy and safe, and that the young man who impregnated her proves to be a wonderful husband and father.

“It is a statement that some of those familly values that Sarah is advancing could not even be passed along to her own kid.”

Do we expect her to be perfect??? Or her child?? Should she not believe in family values still just because her daughter messed up?? Do you have children? Have they ever made a mistake? Does that mean you didn’t teach them right from wrong?

Not all teen mothers get welfare benefits. My oldest daughter got pregnant as a teen, and we supported her and my grandson. My daughter has never received any taxpayer benefits what-so-ever. We not only supported her and the baby, we have been helping her go to nursing school so she will be able to support herself and her son. I am certain that the Palin’s have more money than we do, and I would assume they will pay to support their daughter and grandchild and they won’t be on welfare.
