CNN reports that the RNC Convention will turn into a telethon and a community service outlet for 4 days if Hurricane Gustav destroys cities along the gulf coast.
McCain campaign is presently going over options. He refuses to have the convention be a party atmosphere during time of tragedy and crisis CNN Reports.
Developing...
Alrighty then!
You may want to keep in mind how many people (54) were taken to the hospital during Obama’s Biden announcement in Springfield Illinois due to lack of available drinking water — likewise in Denver where the convention organizers were required to provide water for protesters as a condition of Denver agreeing for them to host the convention there. There was NO water available for the protestors in Denver, the DPD had to deal with it instead.
Even with MONTHS of preparation the Democrats dropped the ball putting people’s lives at risk. And they have the nerve to blame Bush for people not having water in N.O. after Katrina despite the logistical nightmare due to Blanco and Nagin’s ineptitude. It’s not like Bush put up a vendor’s tent in N.O. and sold the water for $2.00 per cup to the Katrina victims - unlike what Obama did in Springfield.
Obama even went so far as to call the RED CROSS to ask if THEY could provide water for his speeches!!! They had to explain that they only “do disasters”.
I don’t like the sound of it, sure tone down the Convention if need be but too much pandering would turn into a Wellstone level backlash against the RNC and McCain, it has to be done tastefully and with as little politics as possible, even if that means inviting those you don’t like to speak in support of the victims.
I would bet you that such a scenario has been put through super computer calcs already. If someone could come up with a ‘cold bomb’ THEN you might see a bomb dropped in the eye of a hurricane.
Actually, he’s somewhat busy himself this weekend...
Most people, I think, are someone braced for cynicism during conventions. Politically speaking, promoting a cause outside the campaign would be a home run — especially if a maverick leads it. It displays a trust in the American people to ‘get it’ that actions speak louder than words.
WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Another fine day for the Republican Party!!!
GO MC Cain/PALIN GO!!!!!
“even if that means inviting those you dont like to speak in support of the victims.”
I respectfully disagree there. When the minister calls his flock to aid in a cause, he doesn’t invite satanics into his church to help. Nor does he invite gang members very often. At least, not what I envision in a church. You appeal to the flock. The last thing you do is get their backs up with a hostile visitor.
Well said, and I agree!!!
I got no problem with it at all.
In fact I am dead set against voting for McCain and always have been, BUT if he actually pulls this off and turns a wasteful Convention into a full fledged effort to help those that will soon lose almost everything they own then he will get my vote gladly.
Not because he would be giving away money BUT because he would not be wasting money and effort that could be used in a time of need.
Too bad the Demo convention wasn’t in N.O. They could have just blown it away with all their hot air.
LOL. Yeah, like that.
Uh, no. I can see it now. Kanye West howling, "John McCain and Sarah Palin hate black people!"
No thanks.
eXACTLY I thought....how many people and schools could have used all that money they wasted on the Dem. convention...and when Obama built the monument to himself..disgusting...just after the night they talked about connecting to the middle class. YeaH Right!!
Who care what people think......Have your speech, country singer.....call now....donate.....John McCain...Country First......talk to Jindahl, Nagen, guy in Mississippi,Fema guy all of them.....heck have Democrats from that state talk... I dont care......think about how it will help people......
Country First.
McCain/Palin already setting the standard. No matter what they do it will be seen as pandering or cold hearted. Cancel...it is pandering in the face of disaster. Go ahead it is cold hearted. Pics from the disaster area with the candidates insitu...pandering.
No, the only real option is to take the convention and uphold his campaign promise of Country First. LEAD. Telethon it, raise money for victims, help coordinate getting food, water, etc. on location. Then at the end of the week get the core business of the GOP done.
You know we saw all those ‘concerts’ to raise money for this disaster or that disaster. The GOP could make them look like small potatoes.
I just called McCain's Campaign HQ and left a message that changing the Convention format to one of helping the folks who get hammered By Gustav is an Excellent Idea!
If anyone else would like to cal the number is (703) 418-2008 and Option "6" lets you leave a message
WHAT WOULD OBAMA HAVE DONE IN THIS SAME SITUATION...???
