The GOP Grassroots will live to rue the choice of Palin

Elections are won in the center not the base

I'm much more interested in how this choice goes with independents and Regan democrats

They outnumber the Base by a significant amount

The fact that evangelicals love this choice scares me.

Did you mean Regan, the possessed child from the book, "The Excorcist?"

Or, former president Ronald Reagan?

Are you sure you’re on the right site? “Evangelicals scare me” is a classic Dem line...but maybe you got confused.

I just made my first contribution to the McCain campaign because I’m so delighted by his VP choice.

Well, it is your base that gets out the votes and works for you. You have to fire up your base to win, no matter what.

As for the Independent voters, Palin is polling pretty well right now.

Sarah Palin made a good first impression. She was unknown nationally before being introduced as the GOP Vice-Presidential pick but is now viewed favorably by 53% of voters nationwide. Her counterpart, Joe Biden, is viewed favorably by 48%. While Palin has made a good first impression, the more significant numbers will come a week from now after the nation has a chance to learn more about her.

Like all those millions of hunters in MI, OH, WI, and PA?

They're going to fall in love with her! IMHO, common sense Americans are going to love VP Palin.

I think you’ll find that in November many of us bitter small-town Americans that cling to our guns and religion are going to go to the polls and support this ticket. We’ll see.

That's my sentiment exactly. A vote from an energized voter counts the same as that from a lackadaisical voter. However these "crazy" conservatives that you find here on FR think that because people are "excited" that will translate to more votes. Rubbish. I've been keenly involved in observing politics for over 25 years and I'm amazed at the naivety of some of the posters on this site. They would rather have a VP they agree with than a VP who is best qualified to step in if something were to happen to the president. They think because Palin is a hunter that is something important. BFD. The so called "evangelical" conservatives for lack of a better word actually believe they are a majority rather that about 15% of the voting public. This is why they keep getting clobbered in elections. Then when clobbered they say the candidate isn't conservative enough. Amazing.

Are you nuts? The "base" was going to stay home on election day. McCain just turned this into a race instead of a shutout.

I hope McCain can pull this out and I hope it was not a mistake to pick Palin. I still, personally, believe Romney would have been a better choice. Romney could not be challenged on a lack of experience like Palin, and where moderates may be skittish about Palin being “one heartbeat away” from the Presidency, there would be no such worries with Romney. I think the turning point will be in the VP debate. If Palin can prove herself there hold her own or even “win” against Biden, a lot of my worries will be gone.

Only time will tell if this was a wise choice, on McCain’s part.

Palin excites me. I cannot find anything I disagree with her on. Kudos for McCain for a brilliant selection! This is definitely a big plus for McCain. Sorry you are are so down and sour on his choice.

Yeah, I'm sure you don't want me to volunteer for GOTV, or put a sign in my yard, or a sticker on my car, or donate $ to McCain, none of which I was prone to do until McCain got me 100% onboard, elated, and energized with his Palin pick.

BOO!

I'm a conservative, pro-life atheist. Palin's a terrific choice.

Female Reagan Dems love her.

Take your pessimism somewhere else.

I mentioned this is another thread but I’ll repeat it here. An online friend told me last night that her super liberal daughter came home from college last night for a weekend visit and proclaimed McCain as her vote this fall after hearing his VP pick. She said she is not the only one at her college that decided this. We might just be seeing another generation of Regan Democrats?

Aren't you the guy who wrote:

MLK would have recognized this guy for the poser he is, but bringing up MLK tonight will be high drama. The media will love it. Expect an Obama bounce.

Or this:

And a lot of her supporters will stay home or vote McCain Will it be enough to defeat Obama? I sure hope so.

It is beginning to appear that you need to reconsider your choice of beverage.

Cheers!
